Obituary of Jerry Dwayne Lojczyc
It is with deep sadness and broken hearts that we announce the passing of Jerry Dwayne Lojczyc. Jerry passed away Monday, January 20, 2025, in Beaverlodge, AB, at the age of 58 years.
Jerry was born in Edmonton, AB, on June 9, 1966, the second child of four, to Alex and Violet Lojczyc. When Jerry was five, his parents moved the family to Beaverlodge, to start their career in the hospitality industry.
Jerry went to school in Beaverlodge and Hythe, AB. He attended NAIT and the University of Quebec in Chicoutimi, QB. Jerry joined the family business after that and worked at the Beaverlodge Hotel and the Beaverlodge Motor Inn for over 25 years. He was an excellent manager and worked hard to run his family’s business to the best of his ability.
Jerry met Barb in January of 1995, and they fell deeply in love and realized they were each other’s person. They were married in December of 1995, and recently celebrated 29 years of marriage.
Jerry and Barb were lucky enough to travel extensively and enjoyed so many of the same things, especially sports! Most of all they enjoyed being together, with each other, all the time.
In 2014, the business was sold and Jerry and Barb started semi-retirement. Jerry worked a few part-time jobs, and they did more travelling. They took a trip across Canada last fall and made so many precious memories.
Jerry excelled in many sports and was a fierce competitor. He was a great listener, very quick-witted, and hilarious. He was humble, modest, and so kind-hearted. Jerry could spot the underdog, the loner, the one who was unsure or sad, and he would try to make a connection.
Jerry loved to ride his motorbike. He took many solo trips throughout Canada and the US. The open road was one of his happiest places.
Jerry was an atheist and loved intelligent conversations about it. History and politics were also a passion of his. He was so smart and logical. He thought deeply about everything.
Jerry loved animals and had the biggest heart for them. He wasn’t sure about Gemma the cat, but of course, she picked him as her favourite.
Jerry was such a wonderful human being. He was the best husband a girl could ever hope for because of his humour, loyalty, common sense, and devotion.
Jerry will be sadly missed by his wife of 29 years Barb; his mother Violet; his brother Michael (Lana); nephew Chad (Sarah) and children Kurt, Reed, and Elise; nephew Brett (Jessie) and daughter Elizabeth; niece Lauren (Lucas) Gaudin and son Kyler; his brother Andrew (Jodi); niece Davis (Clay) van Dyk; niece True (Kade) Forsyth; nephew Reece; nephew Nate; and his beloved sister Suzanne (Derek) Berg.
He was predeceased by his father Alex, his in-laws Rose and Bert Ulmer, his grandparents, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
As per Jerry’s wishes, there will be no funeral. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date.
We would like to express our gratitude to Dr. Maxwell and Karoline Sandhurst for their constant care and support throughout the last four years.
Memorial donations can be made to Bandaged Paws Animal Rescue (bandagedpaws.org/donate), or the Resource Center for Suicide Prevention (www.sp-rc.ca/donations/).
