Gale Marilyn Mary Kelly, Gail to her friends and family, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2025, in St. Albert, Alberta, after a short courageous battle with cancer. Born on August 4, 1939, in Montreal, Quebec, Gail’s vibrant spirit and generous heart touched the lives of many throughout her 85 years. She is survived by her daughter, Lynn Landis (Jim Landis), and was predeceased by her sister, Beverly Kelly, and brothers, James and Melvyn Kelly. Gail was a loving aunt to Deborah Derksen (Clifford Derksen) and Stephen Bowen (Lise Gagnon-Bowen), both of whom have passed on. Her legacy continues through her cherished great-nieces and great-nephews, including Levi (Waylene), Jonas (Roxanne), Caleb, and Luke Derksen, as well as many other great-nieces and great-nephews who will fondly remember her generous spirit.

A Celebration of Life will be held in February at Careadon Village 2 Inglewood Dr. St. Albert, AB, date to be announced later.
Gail’s life in Montreal set the stage for a lifetime of dedication and hard work.
Her career as an Engineering Assistant was marked by meticulous attention to detail and a collaborative spirit. However, it was her tireless volunteer work that truly defined her legacy. Gail was a cherished member of the Sturgeon Hospital Auxiliary Volunteer Association (SHAVA), where she contributed her time and energy with unflagging commitment. Her efforts were recognized with the prestigious Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee Medal (Alberta), an honor that celebrated her exceptional volunteer support at the Sturgeon Community Hospital and the Sturgeon Foundation.
Beyond her professional and volunteer achievements, Gail’s personal life was rich with love and relationships that stood the test of time. Those who knew Gail would describe her as a beacon of generosity, a loving presence in their lives, and a woman of spirited determination. She approached every challenge with a smile and every person with an open heart. Her ability to find joy in the simple pleasures of life, to embrace each day with gratitude, and to give without expecting anything in return made her an inspiration to all who were fortunate enough to cross her path.
Gail’s life philosophy could well be summed up by the words of the great poet Maya Angelou, who said, « I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel. » Indeed, the warmth and kindness that Gail bestowed upon her family, friends, and community members will be her most enduring legacy.
As we bid farewell, we celebrate a life lived with purpose and passion. Her memory will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those she has left behind, serving as a guiding light for the many lives she has impacted. Though she has departed from this world, her spirit remains a powerful reminder of the difference one person can make through a life of service and love.
Gail’s journey through life was a testament to her strength, compassion, and the unwavering love she had for those around her. She will be deeply missed, but her influence will continue to be felt for generations to come. As we honor her memory, we are reminded of the importance of cherishing every moment and living a life that brings joy to others.
