Lenore MacMillan
1938 – 2025
The heavens are shining a little brighter tonight. Lenore Ann MacMillan, nee Spooner passed on with her family by her side on Monday, January 6th.
Lenore was born in 1938, on August 12 to Florence and Leonard Spooner. Sadly, Florence lost her husband Leonard to pneumonia while pregnant with Lenore. Florence raised her son Alex and daughter Lenore on her own in Alexandria, Ontario, where Lenore spent her youth. When she finished school, Lenore got her first job as a switchboard operator working for Bell Canada. She then met her husband, Brian Francis MacMillan, whom she married in 1958.
They moved to Cornwall and went on to have five children: Wayne, JoAnn, Bruce, Connie and Kelly. After the kids were born, they moved to St. Andrew’s West.
Lenore and Brian enjoyed being part of an extended MacMillan family community. Spending many weekends with cousins and aunts and uncles from Glengarry to Ottawa to Montreal. Many happy memories were made.
Lenore remained close to her brother Alex over the years. Alex went on to marry Rae Menard and continued living In Alexandria until he died in 2016.
Once the kids grew older, Lenore began a career working as a nurse’s aide at McDonnell Memorial in Cornwall. She was dedicated to her work and made many good friends along the way, from clients to colleagues alike. Her work meant a lot to her. She was a genuine caregiver.
After many years together, Lenore and Brian separated in 1982. A few years later, Lenore met Leslie Samson, who went on to become her life partner. Lenore and Leslie moved to Picton in 1993, where they lived happily for 25 years, with Leslie’s sons, Parker and Todd living nearby.
After Leslie passed, Lenore returned to the Cornwall area in 2018, choosing to move to the village of Long Sault to live near her family. Her daughter Connie and her husband Dave Thibeault, along with their son Dylan and his wife Taya, live in Long Sault, while their son Ryan and his life partner Maia are living close by in Ottawa.
Lenore’s son, Wayne, and his life partner, Charlene Villeneuve and Wayne’s children, Karen and David, live nearby. Her son, Bruce and his daughter, Trista live in the area as well. Jo Ann and her husband Dan as well as her daughter, Kelly have returned to the area.
Her legacy will not be forgotten. Her memory will live on in all of those who were fortunate enough to know her.
The family would like to especially thank all the staff at St. Joseph’s for the exceptional care and love that Lenore received while residing at The Villa. The staff, while often under-resourced and overworked, went out of their way to take good care of Lenore. The love was mutual.
As expressions of sympathy, Memorial Donations to the St. Joseph’s Care Foundation will be greatly appreciated by the family.
In keeping with Lenore’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a service is not planned.
