SMITH, Winnifred Mary Violet (nee Simpson)
Passed away peacefully at her home in Collingwood Ontario on Wednesday September 25, 2024, at the age of 93.
Wyn was the much loved wife of Ray for an incredible 73 years. She is remembered for her grace, compassion and constant love by her son George (Nancy) and daughter Heather (Ian). Predeceased by her sons Van (Leslie) and Thom (Barbara). She was adored by her grandchildren Natalie (Jeff), Ashley (Shaun), Matthew (Susan), Jennifer (Chris), Roger (Inhye), Tristan (Michelle), Cameron (Kya), Amelia (Scott), Stuart (Celia) and Jillian (Angus). Wyn was delighted to have held and watched 15 great grandchildren grow and flourish.
One of 5 children, Wyn will be missed by her brother Allan and sister-in law Nancy Simpson. She was predeceased by siblings Sonny Ribble, Connie Sherin, George Simpson and sister-in-law Pat Carollo.
After starting life on the family farm in Milton, Wyn moved to Oakville in time to meet Ray in Grade 5 at Central School. Together with Ray, they raised 4 children in Oakville where Wyn volunteered in local schools, taught ESL, was a CGIT leader and baked for all. In 1982 they packed up and moved to Collingwood; once Wyn saw the swans she was hooked. The daily swan count became a morning routine for over 40 years. Wyn loved hosting many family visits, weddings, and anniversary celebrations at their property on the Bay. She loved being around family and friends!
Wyn was incredibly kind and gentle with a fun sprinkle of spunk hidden just beneath the surface. She greeted everyone with a warm smile and her quick quips always made us laugh. We will miss her sweet ways.
Wyn’s family express heartfelt thanks for the compassion and kindness given by her home care team which included Suni, Jenn, Sam, Alisa and many others.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to My Friend’s House Collingwood in memory of Wyn’s beautiful life.
