William F. Clark-DAR Morse Telegrapher – 89 of Stanley, passed away suddenly at his home in Stanley on November 6, 2024. Born in Riverside Corner on March 8, 1935, he was a son of the late Frederick and Vivian Gertrude (Gould) Clark, Fenton.
Pa grew up on Fenton’s farm and around the blacksmiths shop in Clarksville. He was an avid hunter who also was a crack shot and enjoyed the woods from an early age.
He attended high School and then the Air cadets at Windsor Academy, travelling back and forth daily on the DAR Midland train.
At age 18 Pa learned the morse code and signed on with the DAR, later bought by CP Rail, which already employed his cousins John, Grant and Robert Clark. He worked for the Cp Rail for nearly 35 years, eventually serving as an agent operator throughout the Annapolis Valley and Windsor, with a few kicks at of train dispatching in Kentville and across the bay in St. John, N.B. Upon his retirement Pa was one of a few left on the job due to the abolishment of the rail line.
Pa was also well known for his black 1918 model TT Ford pickup truck in the Kentville Apple Blossom Parade and other local parades. Among his most impressive achievement was restoring his 1918 model TT Ford truck with Ralph Clark and his 1929 Model A Ford Tudor with ken Millard.
Pa discovered he loved fiddle playing in his 60’s and devoted his time of learning and writing fiddle music. He was great Mr. Fix-it anything and anytime!
Pa is survived by his sons Joseph and Jonathan Clark, daughters Rose Ratzlaff and Ida Clark, grandson Jesse Porter, granddaughters Kathryn Clark and Edith Ratzlaff, former spouse Mary E. Clark, brothers Gordon (Millie deceased) Fenton and Dave (Kerry-Lee) Fenton, sister Ava (Ted) Corkum and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents he is predeceased by his stepfather Arthur Reginald Fenton, brothers Albert, Herman, Rod Fenton and sisters Evaline Fenton and Maddy (Ralph deceased) Flynn.
Pa was truly loved by his family and friends and will be missed by all, especially his cat “Cappy”
Cremation has taken place, a graveside service will be held Saturday November 16, 2024, at 2 p.m. in St. Stephens Anglican Cemetery, Stanley, Rev. Kent Greer officiating.
