William Henry Hutt
April 28th, 1953 to June 29th, 2024
William Henry, or Bill ,as he was known to his friends, was born in Timmins, Ontario April 28th, 1953 to Kaye and Henry (Harry) Hutt, the youngest of two sons. He spent his youth in Timmins, stealing potatoes from Mr. LaSalle’s garden and building fires with his buddies in the forest to cook them. He immigrated to Southern Ontario (Kitchener) in 1967 and started a growth spurt like no other and by the time he was 16, was 6 foot 8 inches, and yes, he did play basketball! The game influenced all of his life…player through university, and then adult industrial ball (until his knees said “STOP”) …then Coach Extraordinaire and with a team, established the K-W Vipers elite basketball league for youth. He loved the game and the game loved him…many lifelong friends came from playing and coaching…all of whom he valued greatly.
Bill was a kind and gentle man but you had to be careful because his sarcasm and sharp wit was quick and often hilarious and could leave you laughing for days. He loved to play his bagpipes and the skirl of them was the true music of his heart.
Continuing his legacy and his love are his two sons, Ian (Katherine) and Colin (Kaila) and three beautiful granddaughters, Charlotte, Lily, and Maeve…they will all miss their Dad and Poppa greatly. His children and grandgirls were his greatest joy and he enjoyed every moment spent with them.
His wife and his friend of 53 years, Charlene, will miss the shared secrets and companionship that was theirs alone.
His Great Aunt Elen, nieces Rebecca Hallman (Nathan), Elissa Hutt, and nephew Malcolm will remember him fondly. ‘Oh…Uncle Bill!!!’ after the sabre of his wit fell at the dining table will be heard no more.
The angels welcome him as a worthy addition to their team and he was met in the heavenly realms by his Mother, Kaye, his Dad, Harry, Big Brother and SIL, Jamie and Jeri, Grandma and Grandpa Mac, and lots of aunties, uncles and cousins.
He hated any fuss over him and has made us promise not to hold any shenanigans to honour and remember him…so…” pay the piper” with a wee dram of single malt and a hearty salute of “Slainte Mhath!” to a life well and truly lived.
The family would like to acknowledge the love, care, and talent given to Bill in his last days on earth…Dr. Jennifer Chung and all the team at the CVICU at Toronto General Hospital…we thank you for not only caring for Bill but caring for us.
Cremation has taken place. A private family service will be held at a later date.
