GARDINER: William «Bill» Robert –
It is with great sadness that the family of William (Bill) Robert Gardiner of Thamesville, Ontario announce his passing on the morning of Saturday, January 27th, 2024 at the age of 74.
Bill is survived by his wife of 51 years, Brenda Gardiner (née Sturgis) and four children James «Jamie» Gardiner, Nicole Robert (Ken), Kerry Ball (Scott), Kirk Gardiner (Judi). Bill was the proud Papa to seven grandchildren, Evan and Reed Robert, Emerson and Rosalyn Ball and Mason, Hudson and Brock Gardiner.
He is also survived by his sister Dianne MacDonald (Don), sister-in-law Linda DeBurger (Tom), brother-in-law Stephen Sturgis (Karen) and many nieces and nephews.
Bill was predeceased by parents Douglas and Dorothy (Busteed) Gardiner and brother Allan Gardiner (Janis Wadsworth).
Bill was a dedicated employee of Union Gas and retired after more than 40 years of service. He was an active member of Turin United Church and a member of the Gosnell Cemetery board.
His homestead was his favourite place and he loved working outside and taking pride in his yard. If he wasn’t outside, you could find him in his big chair watching a variety of TV shows, but usually the news. Bill was a fan of the Jays and on a good night the Leafs.
He loved his children and grandchildren and fully supported any activity or project they were involved in. Bill was always up for an adventure and had a silly sense of humour that he fostered in his family and will be a part of his legacy.
As per Bill’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at McKinlay Funeral Home, 76 Main Street East, Ridgetown, Ontario on Thursday February 1st, from 2:00 – 4:00pm and 7:00 – 9:00pm with a Funeral Service to be held Friday February 2nd at 11:00am. Private family interment to be held at Gosnell Cemetery.
Memorial Donations may be made in William’s name to the Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation, Turin United Church or a charity of your choice.
