Bill loved to travel. He toured India for six weeks on an all-expense trip with the Shastri Institute. Not only did he love Florida, but travelled to: World Expos Montreal, New York, Kyoto, Lisbon, Germany, Switzerland and Shanghai. He attended ten summer Olympic Games. Bill found great enjoyment in live theatre locally, as well as Shaw and Stratford Festivals, and Toronto’s Soulpepper Theatre. He attended film festivals in Montreal and Toronto as well as the Windsor Film Festival and the Jewish Film Festival, Windsor.
Whenever possible, Bill would listen to classical music and also enjoyed the opera. He read often, especially books of history, politics, cosmology and biography.
His most treasured moments included: the Winged Victory of Samothrace (Louvre), the white cliffs of Dover, Anne Frank House (Amsterdam), St. Paul’s Cathedral (London), the Parthenon, Taj Mahal, Hiroshima War Memorial, Pearl Harbour Exhibit, the Pieta in the New York World’s Fair, King Tut Exhibit (Toronto), The Ghandi Ghat (New Delhi), first standing ovation at Stratford for Christopher Plummer’s last performance of Cyrano de Bergerac , his last lesson from a wheelchair on “The Wars”, meeting Indira Ghandi in New Delhi, having dinner with Roberson Davies—the great Canadian Writer, a private conversation with Jean Chretien (who was candidate at the time as Leader of his party), handling a letter of Thomas Jefferson in the Library of Congress, and reading tributes on the wall at the World Trade Centre, New York.
Bill suggests not waiting for Godot, as he has always failed in the past to show up.
If you so desire, donations to Alzheimer’s Society of Windsor/Es would be appreciated by the family.
