Obituary
Bill passed away peacefully at N.B.R.H.C. on February 10, 2023, at the age of 87, following a courageous struggle with Pulmonary Fibrosis.
Bill was the beloved husband to the late Joan (nee Skinner-Julott) Blumsom and the loving father to Deborah Milroy, Diane (Peter) Blastorah and William (Paulette) Blumsom Jr. all of Powassan.
He was the cherished “PAPA” to 6 grandchildren, Lisa (Chris) of Powassan, Geoff (Tina) of Owen Sound, Sean (Natalie) of Powassan, Caitie of North Bay, Emily of Revelstoke B.C. and Margie of Minden.
He will be lovingly remembered as “PAPA BILL” by 6 great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Carter, Tyler, Jacob, Charlotte and Cohen.
Also, loved by extended family, Michelle (Aaron) of Powassan, Brandon (Emilie) of Niagara Falls and Haden of Powassan.
He will be lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews.
Bill was pre-deceased by his parents, Henry James (Duke) Blumsom and Adelaide (nee Inwood) Blumsom, brothers Harry (Mary) Blumsom, Sidney (Doreen) Blumsom and sisters Dorothy (Alf) Jackson and Kay Walton.

After retiring from Bell Canada/Saudi Bell, Bill & Joan re-located in 1987, to the Town of Powassan to pursue his lifelong dream of having his immediate family all in one place. A dream which came true in subsequent years.
Not long after moving, Bill started a business known as Powassan Property Management Ltd. (PPM), with the focus of providing “affordable housing for Seniors”. 35 years later and still going strong.
As a teenager, Bill played Hockey, but due to injuries he was prevented from pursuing a future. He then focused on Golf, playing around the world on vacations and then playing in many tournaments around home. Then in the 90’s, Bill discovered the sport of “Darts”. He was an avid, competitive player. He started out in the Hotel league, Legion Branch 453 league, then the Northern Men’s Dart League and finally the Seniors Darts with the Over 55 Club. Bill played and organized many tournaments and competed at the Branch, Zone, District & Provincial levels.
Bill was a member of Legion Branch 453 Powassan, Powassan Masonic Lodge Branch 443, Legion Branch 445 Callander Over 55 Club, numerous Coin Clubs, including being a founding member of the Markham Coin Club and the Powassan Historical Society of which he was also a founding member.
In restful times, FAMILY was always 1st! Whether on the Trent River in Hastings, Wasi Lake, or Munro Park, Dad loved fishing, watching the water, listening to birds, or showing his skill set of being the Master of the Ultimate BON-FIRE!
He had a passion for yard work, gardens, antiques, yard sales, auction sales, coin collecting, crossword puzzles, Wheel of Fortune, and Jeopardy.
Music & entertaining was a huge part of his life. Whether at home, on hotel tours or sitting in the garage with guitar in hand, door open, inviting anyone that wanted to listen or join in.
Dad (Bill) liked to help those in need. Acting as the fundraiser coordinator for the Powassan Medical Centre, he created and sold plaques for the Medical Centre walls, t-shirts, hats & buttons raising much needed funds to build the centre. It didn’t stop there, whether it was providing someone with work in between jobs, buying groceries, running errands, rides to appointments, helping with unexpected costs or donating to the Church, Food Bank, Library, and Youth groups, many have benefitted through Dad’s generosity. His memory will live on for many in our community!
As per Bill’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family burial will take occur in the spring.
