Passed away peacefully at Soldier’s Memorial Hospital in Orillia on Wednesday, February 14, 2024 at the age of 71 years.
Bill O’Neill, devoted and cherished husband of Wanda (nee Wolfe) and loving father of Tim (Marie), and Amy Menezes (Andrew). Proud grandfather of Andersen, River, Carter, and Declan. Predeceased by his father, Andy and mother, Lillian.
Lovingly remembered by his brother and sisters, nieces and nephews.
Dearly missed by his brother-in-law, Will Berlenbach and sister-in-law, Karen Wolfe.
Bill was a 32-year career firefighter and Chief of the Georgina Fire Department for 11 years prior to his retirement in 2012. He was promoted to fire prevention officer in 1990 and deputy chief in 1998 before assuming the helm as chief in 2001 when he was also recognized as Assistant to the Fire Marshall of Ontario.
Under his leadership, the fire department was recognized for exemplary service and community initiatives on many occasions including the prestigious Bernard A. Moyle Public Education Award.
Bill was a kind and gentle man who cared deeply for his family, his fire service colleagues and his many friends. He enjoyed curling, golf and hunting and spent many pleasant hours with friends and family around the pool, on his deck with a cold one.

Cremation has taken place. Future interment of cremated remains, Briar Hill Cemetery, Sutton.
A Celebration of Bill’s Life will be held in the Pefferlaw Lions Hall Saturday, February 24th, 2024 from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.
