Obituary
In Loving Memory of Wilfred Donald Brown
March 6, 1950 – November 26, 2023
Wilfred Donald Brown, affectionately known as Wilf, departed this world on November 26, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, hard work, and unwavering loyalty. Born on March 6, 1950, Wilf’s life was a tapestry woven with the threads of dedication to family, friendship, and a strong work ethic.
For an astounding 51 years, Wilf was the devoted husband to the love of his life, Tish (his bride). Together, they weathered life’s storms, celebrated triumphs, and built a home filled with warmth and love. His commitment to family extended to his two children, Sherry and Stephen, whom he raised with a perfect blend of wisdom, humor, and a touch of mischief.
Beyond his role as a loving family man, Wilf was the kind of friend everyone wished for. His loyalty was unwavering, and his friendships were as enduring as his laughter. Whether sharing a cold beer or a hearty laugh, Wilf’s friends knew they had a confidant in him. His absence will be keenly felt by all who had the privilege of calling him a friend.
Wilf was not just a source of joy and laughter; he was also a tireless worker. A man of grit and determination, he approached his work with a strong sense of responsibility and dedication. Yet, despite the demands of work, Wilf always found time for others. His helping hand was extended not only to family but to neighbours, family, and anyone in need. His generosity knew no bounds, and his willingness to lend a hand became a hallmark of his character.
His greatest source of pride, however, was his grandchildren, Cameron and Addison. They were the apples of his eyes, and he reveled in the joy of being a doting poppy.
Wilf’s humor was legendary, marked by his off-handed comments and jokes that never failed to elicit laughter. His innate ability to light up a room with a well-timed, likely inappropriate comment showcased his love for a good laugh.
Wilf was never one to sit around and be idle. His hands were always in motion, tending to his garden with a passion that reflected his love for the outdoors. His green thumb was impressive, and the vibrant colors and blooms of his garden were a testament to his nurturing spirit and the joy he found in the simple act of tending to his plants.
Left with cherished memories: his bride of 51 years Tish, daughter Sherry (Gordon) and son Stephen (Jennifer), grandchildren Cameron and Addison; brothers Hubert and Dave (Phyllis); sisters Lillian (Wilb), Kathy (Dave), Sharon (Clyde), sister-in-law Debbie, and dear family member Francis Young; nieces, nephews, neighbours of 44 years, Lil and Robin Janes and an extended list of many family and friends.
Wilf was predeceased by his parents Gertrude and Garland, his brother Calvin, nephew Craig, sisters-in-law Una and Lena, cousin Lillian Young, and John Brennan who was like a brother to Wilf.
As we bid farewell to Wilf, let us remember the laughter he shared, the love he gave, the loyalty he bestowed, and the hard work that defined his life. In honoring his memory, let us strive to be as dedicated to our families, as loyal to our friends, and as diligent in our work as Wilf was throughout his remarkable journey.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in Wilf’s name, or by donating blood to Canadian Blood Services, continuing his legacy of kindness and generosity.
The family would also like to express their deep appreciation for the care and compassion of Wilf’s healthcare team at the Health Sciences Centre, especially Dr. Thompkins and the ICU nurses and doctors.
Cremation has taken place. A visitation will be held at Barrett’s Funeral Home 73 Commonwealth Ave., Mount Pearl Thursday, November 30 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Friday, December 1 at 11:00 a.m. from Barrett’s Mount Pearl Chapel. For those unable to attend in person, the service will be live streamed. Please visit www.barretts.ca and follow the link provided.
Over the years, Wilf was known to savor a drink of rum. More recently, he found a new favorite in Corona 0, a choice that he would undoubtedly encourage you to try. So, in his honor, the family asks that you raise a glass and have a drink of your choice, whether it be a classic rum or a refreshing Corona 0. Wilf would undoubtedly smile at the idea of friends and family sharing a toast in his memory.
