Lloyd passed peacefully in his 99th year at Cobourg. Lloyd was formerly of New Brunswick, Guelph and of Wiarton for 44 years.
Wilfred “Lloyd” was born in Dalhousie, NB of Irenee and Diana Poirier (nee Ward). Pre deceased by brothers Joe, Valmond, Edward, sisters Angelina, Geraldine, Alida, Elizabeth, Margaret. Survived by sister Juliette of Montreal.
Predeceased by his wife Agnes Brown Leard Poirier of Guelph.
Lloyd was proud of, and unconditionally loving to each member of his blended family of four girls and each of the ever growing members of their families.
He is lovingly remembered and missed by his daughters Marlene Poirier Caswell (Robert), Bonnie Poirier Smith (John). His grandchildren Stephen (Julie), Sandra (Max), Brian, Jacob (Anna), Greg (Sarah) and great grandchildren Maizie, Brynn, Abigail, Keenan, Caswell, Beccah, Logan, Ryerson, Camryn, Henrik and Harper.
Lloyd is equally loved and missed by Agnes’s two little girls, Jean Leard Zamin (Reno), Shiela Leard Scott (Joe), who he embraced and loved as his own. He was a loving grandpa to each of their children, Paula, Jeff, Laura, Christina, Rob, Lisa, Bill, James and grandchildren Lindsay, Owen, Cassie, Rebecca, Tyler, Nathan, Jordan, Darius, Karma, Odin, Lena, Nyla, Brock.
Lloyd is a WWII Veteran, who served in Europe during and post war 1943 to 1947.
Lloyd will always be remembered for his constant teasing which made him popular with children and others who loved to laugh and could relate to his sense of humour. He had a bark that was used to cover the absence of a bite. Humour is the universal salve for the abrasive elements of life. He was an optimist, always looking on the bright side. He was quick to forgive, and as he aged, we noticed he had forgotten how to be angry and always recognized when kindness was needed by those around him.
He loved his family and everyone was his friend. Likewise, we all loved him in return and will miss him enormously.
Thank you to the kind neighbours of Wiarton, for many years of friendship, as well as the caring staff of Palisade Gardens and Extendicare during his more recent years in Cobourg.
In accordance with Lloyd’s wishes, cremation has taken place.
A celebration of his life to be held at a future date.
