Obituary
It is with great sadness that the families of the late Wilfred Frank Hillier, age 78, announce his passing on January 19th, 2024, at the Palliative Care Unit in Corner Brook.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 56 years, Lillian; sons Brad (Reba), Boyan (Renee), Bernie (Heather), and Blair; grandchildren Melodie (Michael), Zach (Alexis), Dimitri, Lucas (Dayna), Breanna, and Tanisha; siblings Helen (Frank), Lillian (Carl), Triffie (Jack), Eugene (Carole), sister-in-law Cynthia, Donna (Bill), Debbie, Janet, and Ivan; in-laws Don (Gail), Frank (Helen), Ted (Phyllis), Mildred, Iris (Barrie) as well as a large circle of cousins, nieces and nephews.
He is pre-deceased by his parents Harvey & Rita Hillier; Brothers Alvin & Dennis, brother-in-law Art; sisters Ruby & Lona; in-laws Leonard & Vera Pilgrim, Junior & Vernon.
Wilfred was born in Griquet, NL. As a teenager he went to Happy Valley-Goose Bay seeking employment. He married Lillian in 1968 and they were blessed with four sons. They lived and worked in Happy Valley-Goose Bay for almost 35 years. Wilfred worked for Department of National Defense for 25 years as carpenter, shop foreman and as a structural engineer. He was regarded in the community to be an expert carpenter and cabinet maker. He enjoyed life with his family in the Big Land, hunting, fishing, boating, and skidooing. He enjoyed many trips to Kenemish especially in winter where he loved to catch lots of big trout. He retired in 1998 and moved back to the island where he continued his love for boating and skidooing, with a particular passion for fishing.
Today, Wilfred is in the loving presence of his Savior and Lord whom he served faithfully since his early teenage years. He has successfully run his race and among his many achievements, cherished specifically the opportunity he had to teach his boys to serve the Lord.
The family would like to express their thanks and appreciation to the doctors, nurses and staff that cared for him at Western Memorial Hospital and Palliative Care Unit. To Pastor Jeffrey White for his many visits, as well as the staff at Parsons Funeral Home.
The family will be receiving family and friends at Parsons Funeral Home on Sunday January 21st, 2024, at 2-4 and 7-9 PM, and Monday January 22nd, 2024, at 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM.
A celebration of Wilfred’s life will be held at Emmanuel Pentecostal Church, 45 Bennett Drive, Deer Lake officiated by Pastor Jeffrey White on Tuesday, January 23rd , 2024, at 2:00 PM, followed by interment at the Pentecostal Cemetery on Wight’s Road. A video of family pictures will precede the funeral service.
The service will be live streamed through the Emmanuel Pentecostal Church Face Book page.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Parsons Funeral Home, 63 North Main Street, Deer Lake, NL.
