Wilbert peacefully entered his Lord’s embrace early Christmas morning.
Lovingly treasured by his wife of 60 years, Judith and their 3 children Gregory & Colleen Schwindt, Robert & Kim Schwindt and Melodi & Boris Wallace. Adored by his grandchildren and greatgrandchildren: Kaitlin (Jacob), Morgan (Jeff), Emma (Austin), Matthew, Allanah & Phil (Luka & Lily), Colton (MacKenzie), Logan, Hunter, Justina & Peter (Sofia & Elena), Nicolette.
Wilbert was born into a Pastor’s home, the oldest of 7 children. His father taught him from a young age many skills that served him well over the years. For example, at the age of 16 he built a motorboat and it sped along the waters of Lake Kagawong for many years. He studied at Eastern Pentecostal Bible College, where he met and fell in love with his sweetheart Judith. He and Judith served in the ministry for over 30 years pastoring in Espanola, Huntsville, Ancastor, Windsor, North Bay, Stratford and Cambridge. His passion was visitation and there was seldom a Sunday that our home did not have a family or two or three, over for a meal.
On the side he was a painter and painted not only houses but also cars and signs “freehand” to perfection. He was also extremely musical and played violin, mandolin, guitar, bass fiddle, saxophone and most uniquely, his “converted whisky bottles” among other instruments.
In retirement he was busy filling in for many pastorates in the area, painting on the side, and doing concerts for many of the local Senior’s centers. What he loved the most though was being able to walk his grandkids to school, play violin alongside them, watch them play sports and simply spend time with them. He ALWAYS had a video camera at hand, and we have many precious memories that we can reflect on because he was so diligent in capturing those moments.
Wilbert will be missed by all his relatives near and far and by sweet friends that have become more like family over the years.
A “Celebration of a Life Well Lived” will be held later in the new year with family and friends being informed closer to the date.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to the Huron Hospice.
All arrangements have been done through Falconer Funeral Home, Clinton.
