Peacefully and surrounded by his family, at the age of 83, Werner passed away on Thursday December 19, 2024 at Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital. Werner is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Maria (Lorincz) and his children Werner Anders (Cara) and Monika Schneider (Brad). Adored Opa to Erica, Zooey and Teddy. He will be greatly missed by his brother Walter Anders (Grace), sister-in-law Joli Sniegocki, brother-in-law Gerhard Schluter and many nephews and nieces and their children. Werner was pre-deceased and he greatly missed his parents Michael (1989) and Erna Anders (nee Kolata, 1965) his sisters Gerlinde Adam (2008), Lieselotte Thannhauser (2017) and Trautchen Schluter (2020), his brothers-in-law Richard Thannhauser (1973), Horst Reimann (2013) and Casimir Sniegocki (2010), his sister-in-law Lois Anders (2010) and father-in-law Lajos Lorincz (2016). He is now cradling in his arms his grandson Zachary Schneider (2016). Werner talked regularly about missing his close friends Dale, John, Horst, Cas and we are comforted knowing there was a great reunion and cheers in heaven.
Werner was born on March 22, 1941 in Eisenweiler, Germany, the youngest of five children in the family. His early years were impacted by World War II where his family were forced out of their home while his father fought for the Polish army. The family settled in post-war Western Germany. Werner immigrated and joined his brother in Canada in 1966 arriving by ship. Werner met the love of his life in 1973 and they married on July 13, 1974. Initially living in Hamilton, Ontario, they moved to Grimsby in 1979 where they raised their family and hosted many iconic family and friends barbecues for 41 years. Werner lived his final years in Waterdown. Werner never worked a day in his life. He masterfully performed his hobby as a Tool & Die Maker for 46 years at Fruitland Tool & Manufacturing. Werner retired on his 70th birthday. Werner was a 51-year member of the Hamilton Germania Club where he functioned as Range Master for many years and he became a skilled target shooter. Werner’s most-prized craft was woodworking. He loved the hours he spent in the garage creating beautiful pieces of furniture with perfection. Werner was a die-hard Hamilton Tiger Cats fan and held season tickets for decades sharing this passion with his son. Werner lived his life fully with great optimism and pride. He proudly declared that everyday he woke up was a great day. Family and friends are invited to Kitching, Steepe and Ludwig Funeral Home, 146 Mill St N, Waterdown for a visitation on Friday, January 24, 2025 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. and a Celebration of Werner’s Life with reception on Saturday, January 25, 2025 starting at 11 a.m. Cremation has taken place and interment at White Chapel Memorial Gardens will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Werner’s memory are encouraged to the Canadian Osteogenesis Imperfecta Society (www.cois-scoi.ca/donations) or the Canadian Cancer Society. Thank you to the staff of the ER and South 7 units of JBMH for their care and support during Werner’s recent hospital stays and to the staff and residents of Village Manor for welcoming Werner and Maria to their new home.
