The family of Weldon “Waggie” Morris Crawford is sad to announce his passing at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital (DECH) on December 27, 2023. Born on December 6, 1936, he was the son of the late Stanley and Gladys (Myshrall) Crawford and loving husband of 66 years to Donna Katherine (Chase) Crawford.
Waggie will be missed by his wife, Donna; his daughters, Kathy Brown (Greg) and Kelly Best (Greg); grandchildren, Jonathan Brown (Caitlyn), Kelsey Best, Adam Best (Lauren), and Bradley Brown (Molly); his twin brother, Willis Crawford (Shirley), his brothers, Clarence Crawford (Florence), and Gerald Crawford (Corinne); sister-in-law, Claire Crawford; brother-in-law, Clenton Chase; Bobby Chase, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
In addition to his parents, Waggie was predecease by his brothers, George, Melvin, and Ronald Crawford and his sister, Marg Maranda.
Waggie grew up in “Black Diamond”, Minto and worked from a young age in the coal mines until meeting and marrying the love of his life, Donna. They moved to Chipman where he began a career in the woods. He continued working in the lumber industry for the remainder of his work life, retiring at age 65 as a log truck driver.
Music was an important part of Waggie’s life. He enjoyed singing and was self-taught on the organ, guitar, and mouth organ. He performed for many years with the Trio at local events and sang in the church choir. His voice will be missed.
A sincere thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff at the DECH, 3rd floor oncology department and especially the ER for their compassionate care until the very end. It was truly appreciated.
Chipman Funeral home has been entrusted with the final arrangements. A visitation will be held on Saturday, December 30th, 2023 at the Chipman Funeral Home, from 2:00 to 4:00 and from 6:00 to 8:00. A funeral service will take place on Sunday, December 31st, 2023 at 2:00 at the Chipman United Church, with interment at the Red Bank Cemetery. A reception will follow the burial at the United Church.
For those who wish, donations in Waggie’s name may be made to the Chipman United Church.
