Wayne Franklin Williams
Hanover, Ontario
June 25, 1942 – May 11, 2023
WILLIAMS, W.F. of Hanover, Ontario passed away peacefully in his 81st year on May 11, 2023 in Kitchener, ON. Wayne devoted his life to the newspaper and printing industry for 50 years, beginning his career working at the family newspaper for his father and then officially beginning his career working at the Guelph Mercury Daily Newspaper, Hanover Post, Fort Erie Review, and Markdale Standard. He worked as a Journeyman for MacLean/ Hunter Publishing, and the Owen Sound Sun Times.
During this time, he married Dianne Karn in Hanover and they raised five daughters and together purchased their own Printing and Design shop in Wiarton where they operated their own shop for almost 20 years. Wayne then finished his career working for a few of the Metroland weeklies before taking a position with the City of Brampton holding the position of Internal and External Printing Supervisor, and worked his way to the Purchasing Supervisor over the next 18.5 years until his retirement.
Wayne enjoyed canoeing, fishing and time spent exploring the lakes and rivers of Algonquin Park with his Grandsons. He loved to curl and enjoyed watching the games after retirement. He was a dedicated Maple Leaf fan all of his life and witnessed the Leafs win many Stanley cups. He loved to garden and spend time at his grandchildren’s hockey games, sporting events, singing and dance recitals, karate and many other activities.
He served his community in Wiarton as Town Councillor for two terms, a Lions Club member for 18 years and a third degree Mason #396 Cedar Lodge in Wiarton. He was a member of the Anglican Church and served on the church boards in Wiarton and Hanover.
Wayne is survived by his daughters; Marjorie Williams Hambly (Peter) of Kitchener, Carrie Kizell (friend Antonio) of Brockville, Annette Gazo (Steven) of Beachburg, Tammie Cameron (Richard) of Milton, Adela MacIver (Iain) of Milton, niece; Amanda Linegar of Toronto, 12 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and long-time friend and companion; Marjorie Dobson of Clinton. Wayne is also survived by his mother-in-law, Bernice Sachs of Hanover and friend Earl; sisters-in-laws; Daphne Williams (Joseph) of Hamilton, Donna Frook (Doug) of Hanover, Yvonne Middleton (Dick) of Hanover, Nancy Pegelo (Ron) of Wasaga Beach, Debbie Waugh (Ken) of St. Mary’s and Heather Gateman (friend Darrell) of Owen Sound and many nieces and nephews. Wayne will be missed by his cousins; Gary Freeman of Egmondville, Marian Doucette of Clinton, Dwight Williams of Salford, Carol Smith of Ilderton, and Sharon Connelly of London. Wayne is predeceased by his devoted wife of 53 years, Dianne Williams (Karn); parents Frank and Theda Williams of Vanastra, sister; Lydia Linegar; brother; Joseph Williams, father-in-law; Gordon Karn of Hanover and brother in-law Ken Karn of Hanover.
The Williams Family will receive guests at the Rhody Family Funeral Home, Chesley on Saturday, May 27, 2023 from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. A funeral service will directly follow at 2:00 p.m. Refreshments to follow the service. A private family interment service will follow at a later date at the Clinton Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada, Canadian Cancer Society or to the Hanover & District Hospital Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
