Tributes
It is with great sadness that our family must share the peaceful passing of
Wayne Douglas Gilmour at the Queensway Carleton Hospital with his wife Lois by his side on the morning of April 4, 2023 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Beloved and devoted husband of Lois (Schroeder) Gilmour. Proud father of Christine (Margo Bedo) and Steven (Jenny) and loving grandfather of Chelsea. Dear brother of Joan Running and Robert (Heather) Gilmour. Predeceased by his parents Russell and Daisy Gilmour, his brother Don (wife Dolly), his father-in-law Basil Schroeder (Josie), brother-in-law Doug Schroeder and his former wife Janice (Mulholland) Gilmour. Fun loving brother-in-law of Sylvia Murdock (Leo Stack), Garry Schroeder (late Barb), Kevin Schroeder and Staci Rushton (Tyler). Wayne is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews, and had a special bond with his youngest niece Jehna Rushton. Wayne was a special friend to Joe and Rose Triacca, Ian Gillies (late Val), Barb Karson and Blanka Johnston (late Dave). He will be fondly remembered by the extended Schroeder Family as someone who brought charisma and fun to all family gatherings.
Wayne held an Engineering Degree from Queen’s University and the Eastern Ontario Institute of Technology. Following his graduation, he had a long and successful career with Nortel/BNR from 1961 to 1998 as a devoted manager to his team in Photomask Operations. During that time, he formed many long and lasting friendships and traveled to many places including Japan, Hawaii and the US. Wayne was an avid golfer and he loved to fish. He enjoyed many hours ice fishing and fishing bass in his boat with Lois, Basil, Steve and Tyler on Clayton Lake, at the Deux Rivieres camp and on Johnston Lake. He especially enjoyed the time he and Lois spent with friends Garry Munro and family and Gerry and Joan Lynch at their trailer at Thompson’s Park on Clayton Lake. Wayne loved baseball and hockey, and he was very excited and believed he had special bragging rights when his nephew “Dougie” Gilmour played for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Wayne and Lois enjoyed many years of vacationing in the southern US during winter months, especially after retirement.
Wayne will be deeply missed by everyone whose lives he touched. Donations in his memory can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Ottawa Mission.
Visitation to be held on Saturday April 15th, 2023 at the Garden Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 3440 Richmond Rd, (between Bayshore and Baseline) from 2pm until time of memorial service in the chapel at 3pm. A reception to follow.
“When you find the love of your life, never let it go and always cherish the memories you made together.” Lois
