It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Wayne Hills on Wednesday October 30th, in his 79th year. Wayne passed away peacefully at Dr Bob Kemp Hospice, surrounded by his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Mary (nee Tarpos) and his loving daughter Cindy (Roberto Sanchez), and daughter Cathy (Tom Shea). He is pre-deceased by his parents Gordon & Elizabeth Hills and brothers Aldin & Albert Hills. Wayne is survived by his sister-in-law Evalyn, brothers Doug (Sheila) and Harold, and brother-in-law Steven Tarpos. Wayne is also survived by his grandchildren Alexander and Benjamin, and many nieces and nephews.
Wayne was a fierce salesman in the 80’s at Fell Fab Products. He loved making the sale and travelling the world to do it. Later, he moved to CEO of International Filter Fabrics. However, his biggest love was his family. Wayne loved baseball, the outdoors and going fishing at Stoney Lake with his brothers Aldin & Doug Hills, and then later, with his nephew Jim Hills. He loved a good plate of fish and chips, Red Rockets Wings, and a trip East Side Mario’s. He was also known as the guardian of the neighbourhood, enjoying smoking on his front porch.
Thank you to Dr Jurgens and the staff at the Juravinski Cancer Centre for their loving care these past 3 years. A special thank you to all of the staff at Dr Bob Kemp Hospice, especially Debbie, Erin, Brenda, Jenn, Sara & Gary. You treated Wayne like a king and made his final months and days glorious with his call buttons, and your love and compassion – you are all angels.
Visitation at Bay Gardens Funeral Home, 947 Rymal Road East, Hamilton, Sunday November 3rd from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m., with memorial prayers at 7pm. The funeral service will be held at Panagia Greek Orthodox Church, 233 E 15th St, Hamilton on Monday November 4th at 11am, burial to follow at Mount Hamilton Cemetery. Donations to the Dr Bob Kemp Hospice or Panagia Greek Orthodox Church would be appreciated by the family. Friends are invited to sign the book of memories at baygardens.ca.
