McLAUGHLIN, Wanda – It is with profound sadness that we say good by to our loving mother Wanda Anna McLaughlin (nee McQuade) who passed away peacefully in hospital, surrounded by her family, on Tuesday October 31, 2023 in her 88th year. Wanda was born in Medford NB to the late Francis and Martha (nee Beaumaster) McQuade. Predeceased by brothers Lorne (Sally) McQuade, Ohmer (Lucy) McQuade and by sisters Ruth McLaughlin and Ida (Cecil) Cassista. Beloved wife to the late Muncel McLaughlin (59 years). Loved and cherished mother to Hayden (Grace) McLaughlin; late Garfield (late Diane) McLaughlin; late Edith McLaughlin; late David (Brenda) Mclaughlin; Gail McFarlane; Connie (Joel) Lafreniere; Kevin (Lori Ann) McLaughlin; Lorie Paul McLaughlin; Annie McLaughlin; Wayne (Melody) McLaughlin; Ruth (Don) Splinter; Donnie (Sharon) McLaughlin. Loving step mother to Matthew McLaughlin (Kate) (late Evelynn). She was a very proud Grammie to Hayden Tim; Ashley and Kate McLaughlin; Shawn (Chantel) McFarlane; Scott, Sara; Jenna and Kacie Lafreniere; James (Rosey) Elliott; Derek McLaughlin; Morgan (Ben) Broszmann; Greg Splinter; Allison (Nathan) Raglin; Jenna (Michael) Wescome; Ryan (Katy) Splinter; Kyle McLaughlin; Penny (Darren) Rabb; late Tammy McLaughlin (late Art) Ploughman. Cherished great Grammie to Luke and Daniel; Rhys and Gavin; Ivy, Fletcher and Charles; Eva and Simon; Jaelynn, Mason and Benjamin; Mikaela, Mikinley and Madilyn; Desaray and Madison; Jenny and Gracelynn. Caring and special aunt to Joanne and Juanita and several nieces and nephews and cousins in New Brunswick.
Wanda moved to Pembroke in 1953 at the age of 17 from New Brunswick with such grace and maturity beyond her years with lots of hardships along the way. Mom lovingly enjoyed her role as a homemaker and care giver and took great pride in raising her 7 boys and 5 girls. With such generosity, she would diligently remember everyone’s birthday and after each visit was determined to send the grandkids home with a special treat. She enjoyed her many visits to New Brunswick in the summertime with several of us kids in tow; enjoyed Sunday picnics to Round Lake and Barry’s Bay and strawberry sundaes from Brums’ Dairy. Mom really appreciated all the home cooked hot meals the family brought in while she was sick, especially the banana bread and date squares. With God as her guiding light mom navigated all aspects of life through generosity, kindness; respect and dignity.
Heartfelt thanks to our brother Lorie for his dedication over the last 2 years caring and staying with mom so she could be in her home until the end. A special thank you to Erin RPN at Bayshore health care; Renfrew County Paramedics for their exceptional care; Nurse Practitioner Kirstie and Dr Yipeng Ge; and the Pembroke Regional Emergency and 3rd floor medical nurses; for mom’s personal care and support and compassion during her journey home.
Wanda’s final care has been entrusted to Neville Funeral Home, Pembroke where a private family viewing will take place. A private Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at The Church of the Most Holy Name of Jesus, Pembroke. Interment St. Columba’s Cemetery, Pembroke. As an expression of sympathy donations to St. Joseph’s Food Bank or the Ottawa heart Institute would be greatly appreciated. Online Condolences may be left at www.nevillefuneralhome.ca
