It’s with heavy hearts that the families of the late Walter Stanley Reid announce his passing on Saturday, December 14th, 2024, at his family residence in his 91st, year, surrounded by his loving family.
He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife Anna nee Bennett of 71 years, his children; Gerald (Patsy), Jessie (Ian), Lorraine (Faron), Melvin (Cathy), Wilfred (Gail), Viola (Frank), Denise (Paul), Walter (Denise), Darren (Daphne), and Ann (Shawn), his grandchildren; Roland, Perry, Corey (Vicky), Jason (Holly), Kyle (Amy), Vicki (Calvin), Vanessa (Fraser), Michael (Heather), Jessica (Tyler), Amiee (Bailey), Phillip (Jessica), Joshua, Damien (Courtney), Dustin (Tajuana), Jamie, Abbey (Ethan), Jacob (MaKenna), Joey (Clara), Alex, and Anna (Conor), his great grandchildren; Jescinda, Sydney, Tristan, Oakley, Reed, Hunter, Katie, Rhea, Mya, Jolianne, Clark, Chesley, Jacob, Jack, Brayden, and Jack D, his brother; Clyde, his sister; Melissa, his brothers-in-law; Calvin, Lloyd (Louise), Raymond (Marie), and Eric (Dulcie) and sisters-in-law; Charlotte, Margaret, and Sheila (Jim), and Joyce, also leaving to mourn a large number of nieces, nephews, other relatives, extended family and friends.
Walter was predeceased by his parents; Theodosia and John Reid, his granddaughter; Angie, his sisters; Lucy (Sim), and Gladys, his brothers; Eric (Mary), Charles, and Henry (Annie), his brother and sister-in-law; Donald (Hilda), Stella (Percy), Cornelius (Viola), Jessie (Winston), Olga (Melvin), Gerald, Violet, Gordon, Donald ( Dorcas) and Bessie.
Walter was born and raised in Norris Pt, NL. He was the son of a fisherman. Walter’s greatest loves were his wife of 71 years, and the family they created and the life they shared. A family man through and through. He worked hard to provide and care for the family he loved, whether it was working in the woods, hunting, berry picking, gardening, or fishing. Walter spent a lifetime in the fishing boat starting at the young age of 15 years. It became a big part of who he was.
An active member of his community through the years. He will be forever remembered for his smile, wit and wise sayings. Always ready to lend a helping hand unconditionally.
Our family would like to express a heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Dr: Isacc, Josephine Pittman, and Erin Young for their support and guidance in helping us care for Dad at home. We would also like to thank the paramedics; Adam Paisley and Ryan O’Rielly, as well as the Norris Pt fire department. Also, to all those who sent messages, called, visited and brought meals, we are forever grateful.
The family will be receiving family and friends at The Church of The Good Shepherd, in Norris Pt, NL, on Sunday, December 15th, 2024, from the hours of 7-9 pm, and continuing on Monday, December 16th, 2024, from the hours of 2-4 & 7-9 pm, where also the Funeral service will take place from on Tuesday, December 17th, 2024, at 2:00 pm, with the burial to follow at the family plot of the Church cemetery in Norris Pt, NL.
