KISMAN, Walter Helmut, December 24, 1931 – August 1, 2023
Beloved husband, father, grandfather and uncle passed away peacefully in Petrolia, Ontario at the age of 91 ½.
Walter was born in Sudbury, Ontario, the oldest child of Hirlanda (Helen) and Karl Kisman.
He was predeceased by his brothers Carl, Ernie and Kenneth.
Growing up they lived on a farm and had a business in Wahnapitae, Ontario.
Wahnapitae was also where he met June, the love of his life.
Walter and June married September 12, 1953 and were together working and traveling and raising children for 68 years. Wayne (Elizabeth) Kisman, Kimberly (Stephen) Lacey and Karri-Lynn (David) Raffler. They were blessed with six grandchildren, Raymond (Miranda), Andreas, Coral, Kessi, Sari and Warrin and three delightful great grandchildren Felix, Calvin and Rupert. Walter enjoyed many careers from family farm, to Air Force, the mines in Sudbury and his own service station. He went to teacher’s college in his early 30’s. Starting out at Garson High School, Milton District High School, Queen Elizabeth Park in Bronte then to M.M. Robinson in Burlington. Walter achieved what few really could do – Freedom 55. He would spend the next 36 years at his true job, retirement. Walter and June made a lovely and welcoming home in Milton for the friends and family. Together they began traveling on the March Break student trips. When it was time to take over the organizing of the trips he was opening the program up to friends, neighbours and family as well as students traveling and learning all through Europe. When he retired they kept going, spending their winters in Spain then Portugal where they met many new friends. As health issues crept up they transitioned to Myrtle Beach, then Florida. They had other adventures that took them to China, the Baltic countries and Russia. Now Walter takes his final journey to join his beloved wife June who predeceased him by one year. Together they will travel on.
A service of remembrance will take place on Friday August 11, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. from the chapel of the
McKersie & Early Funeral Home, 114 Main St. E., Milton (905) 878-4452.
