Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that the family of the late Walter Shears announce his passing Saturday Dec 7th, 2024, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
He leaves to mourn with many wonderful memories, wife Dot (nee House) of 65 years, daughters Dianne (Darrell), Angela (Greg) and Ruth (Roger): Grandchildren Nicholas, David, Amy (Mike) and John (Brianna): Great Grandchildren Maverick, Xander, Noah and Sadie. Sisters Betty Dyke-Sparkes, May Perry (Wheeler-Deceased); Brothers Llewelyn (Ivy), Irving (Dallis) and a large circle of nieces and nephews.
Walter was predeceased by his parents Violet and Gordon Shears, Sisters Mona Major (George- Deceased), Ethel Pittman (Curtis- Deceased), Linda Endicott (Laud-Deceased), Brothers Gordon (Shirley), Scott (Olive-Deceased) and nephew David Major, brothers-in-law; Guy Dyke, and Lloyd Sparkes
Walter was born and raised in Rocky Harbour. He was the son of a boat builder and had a naturally instilled love for the water and boating. He also enjoyed snowmobiling and his cabin. Walter was a family man with a passion for family camping, vacations to Atlantic Canada and all family gatherings with wonderful meals and singalongs.
In his earlier years, Walter served as ton at St. Matthews Church and ran G&C Shears LTD, the family business for many years before retiring.
Our family would like to express heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Dr. Hughes, Karen Hynes and the Staff at the Bonne Bay Health Center for making Dad’s transfer from hospital to home quick and seamless. Also, a huge thank you to Sue Ann Collett for her support and guidance in helping us care for Dad at home. To all those who texted, called, visited and brought delicious meals and treats we are forever grateful.
To Dad’s brother, sisters and their families we could not have done this without your love and support through this difficult time.
The family will be receiving family and friends at The St. Matthew’s Anglican Church in Rocky Hr, NL, on Monday, December 9th, 2024, from the hours of 2-4 & 7-9 pm, where also the funeral service will take place from on Tuesday, December 10th, 2024, at 2:00 pm, with Rev: Green officiating with the burial to follow at the church cemetery in Rocky Hr, NL.
