It is with deep sadness we announce the
passing of Vonetta Mae Chouinard, age 88,
of Springhill, and formerly of Millvale, NS. Vonetta passed away on
Friday, February 16, 2024 at Highcrest Nursing Home in
Springhill.
Born in Oxford, NS, Vonetta was a
daughter of late Milda (Stevens) Purdy.
Vonetta was a proud direct descendant of
Richard Thompson, the founder of Oxford.
She was a great lover of nature,
especially flowers and the beautiful iridescent
hummingbirds. Being a keen gardener, the fruits of her
labour have been enjoyed by admirers near and far and in particular by
fellow gardeners during her lectures and visits to her lily
gardens.
She was a great lover of dogs and the
owner of Attenov Kennels Reg, claiming many award for
pomeranians.
Vonetta was the owner, operator, and
trophy collector in the beauty salon business in Quebec, Ontario,
Manitoba, and Nova Scotia, and a teacher in Vonetta’s Advanced
Hairstyling School, having taught in Ottawa and Manitoba at Fairford
Band.
In addition to everything Vonetta
accomplished, she was also President and Founder of Vonetta’s
Organization Purpose Helping Mankind – For the Poor, Tonveta’s
Maritime Country Singers Society and the UFO Nova Scotia Research
Society, giving ufological lectures at the University of Ottawa and
Carleton University to name a few.
Vonetta will be dearly missed by her
husband of 52 years, John Chouinard, Millvale; her daughter, Sylvia
(Tom) Gobeil, Prescott, ON; her grandchildren, Maureen and Daniel; her
great granddaughter, Victoria; her siblings, Norman (Elsie) Stevens,
Beverly Halliday, and Bob (Jean) Purdy, as well as several nieces and
nephews.
Besides her mother, Vonetta was
predeceased by her brother Jack.
Arrangements have been entrusted to
W. Allen Funeral Home, 60 Water St.,
Oxford, NS (902-447-2167). Visitation will be held from the
funeral home on Thursday, February 22, 2024 from 12 pm until the time
of the funeral service at 2 pm. Interment will take place in
the Millvale Cemetery in the spring. Ruth Gamble DLM
presiding.
