Peacefully on June 16, 2023, our Wife, Mother and Grandmother, Virginia Knysh (Cebrowski) passed with her family by her side following a battle with cancer. Mom was 75.
She leaves to mourn her husband of 54 years Joseph (Joe) Knysh; her daughter and only child Andrea (Dale) Omeniuk and grandsons Benjamin, Nicolas and Matthew. She was predeceased by her parents John and Mary Cebrowski and only brother Michael.
Mom and Dad met while in school in Transcona and married on May 17, 1969. A few months later they moved to the GTA after Dad was hired by Ontario Hydro. After spending one year living in Oshawa, they moved to Toronto where Mom accepted a position with IBM. Realizing it was time to come home and lay down their roots, they came back to Winnipeg to buy a house and start their family. Their daughter Andrea was born in 1975.
Still with IBM, Mom received numerous achievement awards during her time with the company. She ended her working career in 1990 after a cancer diagnosis. A clean bill of health lead Mom to keep busy for many years volunteering with many local charities including Cancer Care, the Winnipeg Humane Society and Heart & Stroke, to name a few.
Mom loved spending summers with family and friends at our lake cottage in Pointe Du Bois and travelling to the southern States in the winter months. She and Dad visited throughout Canada and the U.S. with their motorhome, making friends along the way.
Mom always enjoyed time with her three grandsons; she was so proud of them and their accomplishments. She was overjoyed when Ben graduated from high school with honours last year and recently started his business. She would always cheer loudly for Nick on the hockey rink or football field. She loved watching videos of Matt in free-style ski competitions in the Rockies.
Mom always cherished time spent and conversation with those special people in her life over the years: Heather, Jack and Connie, Rick and Linda and dear nephew Jim in Vancouver.
As Mom wished, cremation will take place and no formal funeral will be held.
If one should choose, donations can be made in remembrance to the Winnipeg Humane Society or Cancer Care.
