Viola Hickman Obituary
Viola Hickman of Lethbridge, Alberta, passed away at Chinook Regional Hospital on Monday, May 13, 2024, at the age of 86 years.
She is the loving mother of and is survived by her daughter Alaysha Hickman. As well as by her nieces Cheryl Sanaster and Jamie Poberznick, and her great nephews Troy (Mandi) Bernhart, and Darcy (Sherri) Bernhart.
Viola was predeceased by her parents Vera and Samuel Poberznick; her brothers Joseph (Irene) Poberznick and Nick (Clara) Poberznick; and by her nephew Blaine Poberznick.
Viola was born in 1937 to parents Vera and Samuel in Skiff, Alberta, with two older brothers Nick and Joe. She went to a one-room school in Skiff and walked the track everyday on her way there. As a child, Viola helped out her older brother Nick at his general store and there she learned how to make Jello and open a can of soup. From there her cooking skills blossomed. People would come far and wide for her homemade Borscht and meat loaf sandwiches.
Her first job was as an AGT operator and supervisor where she met her lifelong friend Sach Fujikawa. She loved any animal and rescued many over the years that needed a home. And you always knew what season it was when you drove by her house with her decorated windows.

The smiles, I’ve only gone to rest a while.
Although my leaving causes pain and grief,
My going has eased my hurt and given me relief.

Understand in your hearts I’ve only gone to rest a while.
As long as I have the love of each of you,
I can live my life in the hearts of all of you.
