Vincent Michael Tycholas
February 10, 2023
November 15, 1951 – February 3, 2023
With heavy hearts and great sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of Vince Tycholas at St. Boniface Hospital, with his family by his side.
Vince is greatly missed by his devoted wife of 50 years Grace; sons Ryan (Winter) of Edmonton and Derek (Lené) of Thunder Bay; daughter Krista; only grandchild Colton of Thunder Bay; sisters Phyllis (Ted) Shwaluke and Alison Bach; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by daughter Amanda (2021) and recently, best friend Dennis Pero (2023).
Vince started working at an early age, delivering newspapers, and setting up bowling pins. As a young adult he began his employment at Carling O’Keefe. After becoming a husband and father, he decided to pursue an accounting career, proudly earning his CGA designation in 1986. He held controller positions at Ed Vickar Chevrolet, Hash Jeans International, Regal Furniture, and Quality Bed & Spring. In 1990, he began employment as GST Auditor with Revenue Canada. In 1998, he transferred to the Government of Manitoba as Computer Audit Specialist, a position he held until his retirement in 2010. He enjoyed a well-deserved and happy retirement, often heard saying “everyday is Saturday”.
Family was important to Vince. His wife, children, and grandson were first and foremost. He took great pride in every milestone, big and small. Pops was always willing to lend a hand and ear, eagerly sharing his advice and well-rounded expertise. He was more than a father, but also a true friend to his wife and family. Becoming a grandfather was a big highlight to family life. He looked forward to every visit and phone call. Colton and Gramps shared many trips to the ice cream parlour and lengthy conversations, especially over their newly shared interest in NASCAR.
Vince had an avid passion for travel, especially road trips. Once retired, on any given day he would spontaneously decide to “go for a ride”. Over the years, he spent many hours meticulously researching and organizing an itinerary to include many points of interest so that nothing was left unseen. His favourite drive was from Calgary to Banff, which he did several times with family and even on his own. His ultimate goal was to see North America. He proudly visited all 10 provinces and 37 states. He loved to elaborately recall, with picture-perfect detail, accurate accounts of each and every trip. In later years, his love of travel expanded to include all-inclusive resorts and cruises.
Vince endured many health challenges including heart disease and cancer. He fought and faced his battles with great fortitude, retaining independence and living in his own home to his final days, just as he wanted. His positivity, courage, and strength are an everlasting inspiration.
His presence, integrity, intelligence, vibrant personality, unquenchable thirst for knowledge, detailed storytelling, and everyday conversations will be greatly missed and forever cherished.
Cremation has taken place and a private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made to Operation Excellence Health Sciences Centre Foundation or Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.

Sad to see this today in the Free Press. I worked at CRA and collaborated on some audit files with Vince who was the PST guru. I enjoyed meeting and talking with him every time we met. We had a lot of interests in common to discuss that weren’t work related. He was a Great guy. My condolences to the family.
