Victor Silva, our dear Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather & Uncle passed away peacefully on Friday May 27th, 2023 at 12:05 am with his family by his side at Kensington Hospice after battling with Leukaemia.
He was born on June 9th, 1936 in Ribeira da Areia, São Jorge, Açores to João Machado Da Silva & Deolinda Bettencourt Da Silva. He served in the Army in 1957 in the Açores. He married his wife of 49 years Maria Bernadette Simão on February 25th, 1974. They had 2 children, Esmenia Do Rosario Teixeira Da Silva & Elvis Emanuel Simão Da Silva. The family then immigrated to Toronto, Canada on November 13th, 1981.
His interests included watching Portuguese TV & hearing the Portuguese Radio daily. He loved watching soccer games which he then loved discussing the game with his Godson on Sunday’s. Once he retired he travelled every Summer back home to his beautiful Island of São Jorge, Açores with his wife to spend time in his favourite place on earth, Fajã da Ribeira da Areia at his family home which was built by his father.
He is survived by his wife Maria Bernadette, his daughter Esmenia (Juca), his son Elvis (Tanya), his grandchildren Christina (Mathew), Brian (Luana), Michael, Tyler & Ethan; his great grandchildren Lucas & Melany. His brothers Nuno & Jorge his sister Maria. As well as a large extended family which includes many nieces & nephews.
He is predeceased by his father João Machado, his mother Deolinda Bettencourt, his brother Manuel Machado.
Thank you to the entire staff at both Toronto Western Hospital as well as Kensington Hospice for their support, kindness, compassion and tender hands during this difficult time.
The family would like to thank everyone who called, sent msgs, visited etc for their support and love during such a hard time.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Erminda de Nossa Senhora de Fatima Church in Fajã da Ribeira da Areia, São Jorge, Açores.

Visitations will take place at the Vescio Funeral Home “Toronto Chapel” (2080 Dufferin St. 416-656-3332) on Tuesday, May 30th, 2023 from 2 – 4 & 6 – 9 p.m. and on Wednesday, May 31st, 2023 from 2 – 4 & 6 – 9 p.m.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, June 1st, 2023 at a time yet to be confirmed. at St. Matthew’s Roman Catholic Church (130 Bathurst St., at Adelaide St. West). Entombment to follow at Prospect Cemetery.
