Obituary of Veronica Cormier: Dartmouth, New Waterford
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Veronica Cormier, age 91, on Monday, September 16, 2024 at the Dartmouth General Hospital. Veronica was born in Sydney, NS and lived most of her life in New Waterford, later moving to Dartmouth.
She lived for family and friends, taking particular joy in caring for young children, both her own and those of close friends. She loved dancing and singing at family gatherings, often to the accompaniment of her late husband Wilfred. Family events were not complete without a serving of her famous cabbage rolls and “Hello Dolly” squares. Veronica loved her siblings and visited them often. She enjoyed working within the church and was proud to serve in the choir and as a Eucharistic Minister.
Veronica is survived by her son, Brian (Wendy) Cormier; daughter, Lisa (Mike) Hickey; grandchildren, Gillian Cormier, Andrew Cormier, Kelly Hickey, Kara Hickey; great-grandchild, Isaac Street; sisters, Irene Penney and Pauline Wadden; brothers, Kevin Kyte and Leo Kyte; and bonus children, Marlene and Laurie Webber. She is predeceased by husband, Wilfred and daughter, Cathy, as well as siblings, Mary, Rose, George, Joey, Bernie and Patty.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and guidance of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, New Waterford. A Funeral Mass of celebration will be held on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Father Godwin Obike officiating. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery with a reception to follow at the Army, Navy, Air Force, Unit 217. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Parish Church of St. Leonard, New Waterford. Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at: www.vjmcgillivray.ca.
