Verna Boyechko Obituary
Boyechko: Verna, March 2, 1936 – December 19, 2023 at 87 years Verna Boyechko was born on March 2, 1936 to Mary and Alex Swetlikoff in Kamsack, Saskatchewan and passed away in Winnipeg, Manitoba on December 19, 2023. She aƩended Prairie Queen School in the Country unƟl grade 7. The family then moved from the farm by Madge Lake to a larger farm outside of Kamsack where she conƟnued her schooling to grade 9. Being the oldest child in the family she quit school at the age of 15 to help her family on the farm. She met her husband at the age of 16, William Boyechko and they were married November 7,1955 at the age of 19. Verna lived on the Boyechko family homestead west of Kamsack most of her life, raising her family, tending to the land and caring for farm animals. Verna worked at Windmill Bakery for 15 years assisting in the daily preparation of bread and baked goods. She mastered her bakery skills and became the head baker at the Shoprite Store for 3 years. Verna moved from the farm into Kamsack in 1994 and lived there until 2019. She was an avid gardener, baker and crafts person sewing, quilting, knitting and crocheting. She is well known for her amazing rugs that grace the thresholds and walls of her loved ones and beloved friends all over the world. She embraced her fellow farm ladies she knew most of her married life and helped in the annual perogy making days that raised money for the Veregin Community Seniors Center. Verna was proud of her children and they were the love of her life. She was predeceased by her father, Alex in 2006 and her mother, Mary in 1999; her husband, William in 2007; great grandson Richard in 1987. Verna is survived by her siblings Lena (Joseph) Hoolaeoff, Florence (Andrew) Belecki and Alex (Sharon) Swetlikoff plus, numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. She is survived by her children Clifford (Judi) Boyechko of Kamsack, Iris (Dave) Gillies of Winnipeg; Bobby (Shelly) Boyechko of Galiano Island; Marion (Blair) Sherwood of Winnipeg. Grandchildren Kippy (Anna) Boyechko of Ottawa; Shawna‐rae Boyechko of Victoria; Kenny Boyechko of Ottawa; Miranda Gillies (Jack Martinuk) of Winnipeg; Tyler Gillies (Randi O’Connor) of Winnipeg; Tim Gilles (Kelsey Morrison) of Winnipeg; Jecelyn Boyechko (Dave Griffiths) of Salt Spring Island. Great Grandchildren Eric Boyechko of Ottawa; Allison Boyechko of Ottawa; Alexander Boyechko of Ottawa; Jessie Dylan Boyechko of Victoria; Joey Boyechko of Ottawa; Railyn Greer of Salt Spring Island; Thomas Griffiths of Salt Spring Island. Funeral Services to be held on Friday, December 29, 2023 at 1:00 pm at Wolkowski Funeral Service, Kamsack, SK. Donations in memory of Verna can be made in lieu of flowers to the Veregin New Horizon Community Hall.
