Obituary
WILLIAMS, Valerie Mildred
It is with sadness in our hearts that we announce the passing of Valerie Mildred Williams (nee Casselman) on 2 April 2023. Valerie passed away peacefully in the Belleville General Hospital with loved ones by her side.
Valerie was born on February 17, 1955 to parents Harry and Shirley Casselman in Trenton, Ontario. She grew up in the family home situated along Hwy 2 and attended Murray Centennial Public School and was a graduate of East Northumberland Secondary School in Brighton.
Valerie was a beautiful soul who lit up the lives of everyone who she came into contact with. In her early adulthood this attractive young lady caught the eye of an equally young soldier and in 1977 she married Dennis Glenn Williams and soon blessed him with two lovely daughters, Sarah Ashley and Brandy Tiare. As a family, they traveled wherever the military sent them, including a four year tour in Germany which led to winter Alpine ski trips and warm European summer vacations and where she made lifelong friendships. Valerie was a super Mom and supportive spouse through all those years but somewhere along the way feelings changed for the parents as they sometimes do and in the early 90’s Valerie and Denny went separate directions but remained forever friends.
Valerie later worked for VitalAire in Belleville and met a handsome man whose private business had him frequent where she worked. After dating for some time, Valerie and Larry VanNorman made a commitment to each other and Valerie eventually moved into Larry’s home in Belleville.
Valerie and Larry, together with Val’s father Harry made regular weekend visits to auctions and yard sales throughout the Quinte area hoping to find any hidden gems along the way. Valerie loved to garden and always looked forward to Spring so that she could get her plants in the ground. Valerie also loved all of her grandchildren immensely. She would always joke about being a “greedy Grandma” who cherished hugs and never wanted the little ones to go home.
When diagnosed with an almost incurable disease, Val did not lose faith. She stayed strong and fought for every moment that she might spend with loved ones and friends. Her courage while facing insurmountable odds was inspiring. Throughout her life, Valerie’s bright smile and radiating light were contagious. We will miss her joy, her spark, her laugh, her hugs and her unconditional love that will last forever.
Valerie is now in the comforting arms of the Lord.
Valerie was predeceased by her father, Harry Casselman and her brother, Ron and is survived by her mother Shirley Casselman. She also leaves behind her spouse Larry VanNorman and his children Nathan VanNorman and Amy VanNorman; her daughters, Sarah Howard (Mike) and Brandy Williams (Behrang). She will be forever remembered as Granny (Gamma) to all her grandchildren and be missed greatly by many extended family members and especially supportive friends. In lieu of flowers please send donations in Valerie’s name to the Canadian Cancer Society.
A Memorial Service will be held at WEAVER Life Centre – East Chapel, 29 Bay St. Trenton on Friday, April 14th, 2023 at 1 PM. Reception to follow. Keeping with Valerie’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Private Family Graveside Service will be held at White’s Cemetery at a later date.
