Valerie Jean Hampel
1949-2024
Valerie Jean Hampel – 75, of West Black Rock,
passed away in Yarmouth Regional Hospital on Friday, November 1, 2024.
Born in Berwick, she was a daughter of the late Kenneth and Lorna
(Keddy) Hale.
Valerie moved with her family to Toronto at the age of 14,
and she worked throughout Ontario and Elnora, Alberta as a truck
driver for the span of her career. She loved trucking and everything
that went along with it. Valerie and Grant enjoyed doing runs
together, travelling all across the United States and Canada. She
loved meeting new people and seeing the sights along the way. When not
in the truck, they also travelled on some memorable cruises, including
Mexico, which was an all time favourite. Upon retirement, Valerie and
Grant relocated back to the Valley for their golden
years.
Valerie had a love for animals from a young age. During their
time in Alberta, she and Grant started a cattle ranch, she enjoyed
tending the livestock while he was on the road and loved riding their
horses. She was a social butterfly and often had a crowd around her.
Their home was like Grand Central Station, always packed with friends
and family. Many parties were had, the yard often filled with tents
and even some big rigs at times. Valerie loved being the host of these
many gatherings and you never left without a full belly and sore
cheeks from the smiles and laughter. Valerie had a zest for life, she
was spontaneous, she loved listening to music, she loved to laugh and
socialize, and she could carry a conversation like no other! Her
patience was rarely tested, unless dealing with unnecessary stupidity.
Her shining personality and commitment to her family and friends will
be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Valerie is survived by her husband of 33 years, Grant Hampel;
daughter, Sonya (Greg) Cornelius; sisters, Sharon (Earl) Ryan and
Sheila (Joe) Bembridge; grandchildren, Thomas, Jillian and Preston;
and several nieces, nephews and extended family.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her son,
Christopher; daughter, Charmaine; grandson, Travis; brothers, Bradley,
Ross, Trevor and Kevin Hale; and sisters, Lorraine, Charmaine and
Eleanor.
Visitation will be held between 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on
Thursday, November 7 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville,
where the funeral service will also be held on Friday, November 8 at
10:00 a.m. Reverend Ivan Norton officiating. Interment will take place
in Lakeview Cemetery, Lakeville.
