“Yellow Feather”
With family by her side, Valerie ‘Baby Val’ Contois began her journey to the spirit world on February 22, 2023 at the Portage District General Hospital at the age of 58 years.
Valerie will be lovingly remembered by her children Jerry Kim Daniels, Greg Joseph Contois (Juanita) and Bo Contois, grandchildren Angelo, Alexandra and Greg Darian, partner Vernon Contois, brothers and sisters Diane, Lorraine, Barb, Karen, Marvin, Ken, Sharon, Corena, Darryl and Ronda, extended family members Tyson James, Greg Meeches, Kotton Francis and Sharon Scott as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Valerie was predeceased by her parents Donald and Isabel Daniels, sister Tina and an infant sibling, son Nick Meeches, brother-in-law Cecil Miness and close friends Sheila James, Dorothy Myran and Sandra Merrick.
Valerie was born in Portage la Prairie and raised in Long Plain. She went to school in Long Plain and Rossendale, and then attended Yellowquill College for Certified Aboriginal Finance Management.
Val worked for various entities in Long Plain, and enjoyed her work in video production with Eagle Vision.
Val enjoyed sewing, playing bingo and slots, attending Pow Wows, picking medicine and berries. She loved her many dogs, and her favorite times were spent with family and friends, laughing and telling jokes.
Val was truly loved and will be missed.
Wake will take place at Long Plain Rez Plex on Saturday, February 25, 2023 beginning at 4:00 pm. Feast and Ceremony will be held at Long Plain Rez Plex on Sunday, February 26, 2023 at noon. Burial will follow at Donald and Isabel Daniels Cemetery.
A tree will be planted in memory and cared for by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel. www.mckenziesportagefuneralchapel.com
