It is with heavy hearts and grief that we share the sudden passing of our dearest Uta at Metropolitan Hospital in Windsor early Saturday morning on August 19, 2023 at the age of almost 84.
Dear and beloved wife of William “Bill” for 57 years and a very caring mother of Billy in Vancouver. Uta was predeceased by her parents, Max and Alice, and sister Lilly.
She came to Canada with her family from Germany in 1951 and arrived in Halifax on board the S.S. Saturnia sailing from Genoa, and then on to Toronto by train.
Uta initially worked at a firm of chartered accountants in Toronto, where she helped prepare the complex financial statements, and then starting in 1966 she worked as a secretary in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Waterloo, before coming to Windsor in 1968 with her husband. She was the secretary at Forest Glade Public School for many years and the younger children always told their parents that she owned the school. Uta made a positive impact on the lives of many school children through her acts of help and kindness while at Forest Glade, before retiring in December, 2004.
Uta had many strengths, abilities and adventures: helping young school children; traveling to the remote areas of every province and territory in Canada with Bill; being high atop mountains; on glaciers; in deep canyons; rafting on wild rivers; walking in beautiful rain forests; panning for gold in the Yukon River; avoiding polar bears at Lake Hazen in the High Artic. She also traveled throughout the United Kingdom and many countries in Europe, always stopping to visit any famous cathedral. If Uta ever had any spare time she loved to read with a passion.
Uta always recognized her blessings and she never said ‘no’ to helping others. She cherished her weekly outings with her best friend, Maureen. Uta will be greatly missed.
In accordance with Uta’s wishes cremation has taken place and there will be no service or visitation. We have many strong and happy memories of Uta, and soon her atoms will be powering the future!
