Udo Adam Obituary
UDO WALTER ADAM
1945-2024
Udo was born in August of 1945 in Stedenbergen, Germany. His family immigrated to Canada in 1950 to Wetaskiwin and finally to Edmonton.
Udo was predeceased by his father Siegfried and his mother Lina; along with a number of aunts, uncles and cousins.
Udo leaves to mourn his wife Wendy of 55 years, brother Diethelm (Maxine) Adam and family, sister Doris (Hardy) Sonnenberg and family, brother Karl (Yvette) and family, and sister Greta (Garth) Bell and family. He also leaves to mourn two very special young ladies: Natasha Noble (the Princess) and Jenna Noble (the Duchess) an integral and much loved part of the family.
Udo graduated from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a minor in computer science. He left U of A for two years and worked as a laborer, a draftsman in steel fabrication, and a boilermaker much of the time up north in Ft Mac and Fox Creek. He returned to University to finish his degree and married the love of his life. He went to work in Edmonton for Great West Steel but then moved to Vancouver progressing through several companies on the coast ending up as the Cost Accounting Supervisor for Weiser Lock.
Life changed and the family moved onto Calgary where he found a job with LTV Energy which merged to form Continental Emsco working his way up to CFO of the company, and with another merger ended his career as VP of Business Services of CE Franklin Ltd.
He retired in 1996 and purchased with his wife and his brother in law a small ranch south of Okotoks raising, showing and selling purebred cattle; and entering the custom haying business with a couple of neighbors. Cancer somewhat ended his career in Agriculture and they moved to Okotoks where the call of politics entered his life. Many campaigns and Board positions certainly gave him the “inside” of the political system. And the travel began: cruises including a world cruise consisting of 57 ports in 42 countries, a tour of the battlefields of Europe, a 6 week trip to encompass London, Ireland and Scotland and a quick visit to Dubai to visit a niece. A wonderful 3 month trailer trip to the east coast of the USA ending in Charlottetown on Canada Day. And then across the vast expanse of Canada to home, visiting friends and family along the way.
He pursued many hobbies from skiing, to car club activities such as show and shine, slalom racing and rallye competing in the US and across the western provinces and scuba diving off the west coast.
His greatest commitment was to the communities he lived in: while in the Corvette clubs, another of his passions, many dollars were raised toward research into Spinda Bifida. Calgary gave him many opportunities as a member of the Northmount Kiwanis Club, and after moving to Okotoks, the Rotary Club. He also had a great passion for Lemonade Day – an entrepreneur initiative teaching children about business through mentorship and how to develop a plan to make a profit selling their lemonade! He faced increasing health challenges but always found a way to give back, going on to work at the Missions Store checking electrical donations to ensure safety and finding uses for scrap lumber or unusable furniture. Bird houses, feeders, garden boxes – he built over 600. His health worsened and he finally had to give up this great joy. He put down his last tool and left us on Nov 15.
A celebration of life will be held at Viking Rentals Center (Formerly Foothills Centennial Centre) 204 Community Way, Okotoks on Wednesday, November 27, 2024 at 1:00 pm with a reception to follow. The service will be livestreamed, link available on Snodgrass Funeral homes website.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Rotary Club of Okotoks Career Opportunity Award www.canadahelps.org/en/dn/123446 in recognition of his passionate advocacy for education and its power to transform lives. There will also be donation envelopes at the service.
