Tonia Concetta Gomes
March 30, 1945 – December 6, 2024
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Tonia «Toni» Concetta Gomes (née DeMeis) on Friday, December 6, 2024 at the age of 79 years, at Devonshire Seniors Community in Edmonton, Alberta.
Toni was well loved for her profound kindness and generosity of spirit. She was born in Italy to parents Lucia and Umberto DeMeis. At almost the age of 12, Toni and her family immigrated to Edmonton where she had resided since 1956.
Toni is survived by her husband, Malcolm; daughter, Kimberley; son, Curtis; sisters, Mary Sherban (Arnie) and Dale Sousa; numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends; as well as her cousin, Tony DiIulio, and his family in Italy. She was predeceased by her parents, Lucia and Umberto; and stepmother, Reine.
Toni had a lengthy and gratifying career at the U of A Cameron Library for 46 years. She had been involved in a variety of activities, such as arts and crafts, physical exercise, in addition to various associations and clubs promoting the study of the Italian language and culture.
The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the doctors, medical staff and social workers from the U of A Hospital, the Cross Cancer Institute, and Devonshire Care Centre.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Tonia can be made to the Cross Cancer Institute, 11560 University Avenue NW, Edmonton, AB T6J 1Z2.
