Toews, Zachary Devon
Zachary Devon Toews was born to Keith and Candace Toews in St. Mary’s Ontario, on January 31, 1995.
He was a lively, energetic child who was always on the go. As a young teenager, he loved challenging the limits of what he and his BMX bike could do. At the age of 15, he and his family moved to Oraini, Haiti, to establish the Confidence Health Center. Upon confession of his faith, baptism into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite followed shortly after. The various experiences he encountered led him to discover his skills in mechanical and metal work. Six years later, he came back to Ontario. He fell in love with Heidi Reimer from Crooked Creek, Alberta, who was teaching school in Meaford, and they were married on October 8, 2017. After trying out a number of occupations, he settled down to building a welding business, Meaford Metalworks. Though he walked through the valley of struggle, he never wavered in his desire to be a Christian. His upward climb was finished sooner than expected when God called him home on Jan 28, 2023, due to a shop accident, just three days short of his 28th birthday.
He is mourned by his wife, Heidi, of Meaford, Ontario; parents Keith and Candace Toews; siblings Trevor & Crystal, Cameron, Chase, Christina and Ketli, all of St. Mary’s, Ontario; grandparents Robert & Sally Toews, Kingsville, Ontario; Fred & Rachel Penner, of Meaford, Ontario; parents-in-law Marvin & Lola Reimer, Crooked Creek, Alberta; siblings Viv & Eldrid Unruh, of Meaford, Ontario; Galen & Kayla, Fort Vermillion, Alberta; Brad & Jennica, Charles & Mary Jo, Andrew & Wynelle, Crooked Creek, Alberta; Grandma Tena Toews, Crooked Creek, Alberta and many uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces & nephews. He is predeceased by one uncle, Jonathan Penner.
Zachary’s family will receive friends for a public visitation at the Ferguson Funeral Home, 48 Boucher St. E., Meaford, on Friday, February 3rd, 2023 from 5:30 until 8 p.m. All are welcome to attend a funeral service on Saturday, February 4th, 2023 at 11 o’clock at the Owen Sound Canadian Reformed Church, 177551 Concession 5, Owen Sound, ON N4K 5N3.
