Thomas Joseph Bennett
1938-2023
We sadly announce the passing of Thomas Bennett of Moncton,
formerly of Codroy Valley, at the Kenneth E. Spencer Memorial Home on
January 26th, 2023. Born in Tompkins, NL, he
was the son of the late Wallace Benoit and Clara
McQuarrie.
Tom retired from IOCC, where he achieved 37 years of
injury-free work as a welder. Outside of work, he was a former member
of the Country Meadows Golf Club, where he enjoyed spending time. He
also loved going on cruises with his wife and doting on his grandkids,
who were his pride and joy. A very competitive person, Tom loved
playing any type of cards and was an avid chess player. After teaching
his son how to play chess as a child, Tom later was taught by his son
how to play chess online. He used this skill to play against both his
son as well as players around the world.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife Vera of 53 years
(née Avery), son Wally (Lisa), daughter Tracy (Andrew),
beloved grandchildren Jack and Katherine, brothers Francis (Juanita)
and Joe (Bernice), sisters Rita (Larry) and Roseanne, and several
nieces, nephews, and cousins. Besides his parents, he was predeceased
by his brothers Charlie, Leo, Paul, and Thomas, and his sister
Geraldine.
His family will receive friends and relatives at
Cobb’s Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 330 Whitepine Rd,
Riverview (869-2007) on Wednesday, February 1st
from 6-8pm. A service celebrating his life will take place at the
funeral home on Thursday, February 2nd at 11am
with a committal at Fair Haven Cemetery to follow. For those unable to
attend, the service will be livestreamed and recorded. Donations in
his memory to the Alzheimer Society would be greatly appreciated by
