With great sadness but loving memories we announce the passing of our much loved David, husband to Vera, and cherished father of Denise.
David is predeceased by his parents Gordon and Olive Carr, and his Aunt Bernice.
He leaves behind his brother Brian (Anne), his niece Ashley McArthur (Corey), nephew Blake Carr (Melissa), cousins Joanne McLean (Ian), and Chris Thorndyke (Sandi), and their families.
Sister-in-law Stephanie Johnstone (Ron), nieces Kandis (Troy), and Tami (Sean).
Sister-in-law Debbie Bereziuk (George-predeceased). Nephews Steven (Sarah), and Bryan (Andrea), niece Lindsay Cater (Brad), and their families.
Most respected and loved son-in-law to Stefan (Dido) and Helena (Baba) Bereziuk
(both deceased).
David was born and raised in Toronto where he attended Richview Collegiate Institute. The family then moved to Guelph, where David attended the University of Guelph, receiving his B.A in 1971. He then attended the University of Western Ontario receiving his L.L.B in 1974.
He came to Hamilton to work as an Assistant Crown Attorney from 1976-1987. He then became the Crown Attorney for the City of Hamilton from1987-1999.
In 1999, David was appointed a Justice of the Ontario Court of Justice sitting in Kitchener.
He retired in 2015 after serving the people of Ontario for 39 years as Crown Attorney, and as member of the Ontario Court of Justice. He then chose to continue as a per diem Judge until his illness in 2022.
Those who knew him in the legal profession, knew him as knowledgeable, reasonable, fair, and compassionate. His presence in the legal community will be missed.
He loved his sports, especially the Buffalo Bills and the Toronto Maple Leafs, which lent to lively discussions at John and Elaine Cvetkovics home each Sunday.
He loved his music, especially the Rolling Stones, attending every concert with John Cowman, Vera, or his then 3 year old daughter Denise. He and Vera attended every Alice Cooper concert they could get to, along with a meet and greet.
He loved his family most of all.
A special thank you to his best buddies John Cvetkovic and John Cowman who were ever present during his illness. He loved them dearly.
A special thank you to his special and much loved sister-in-law Stephanie, who worked tirelessly to help the family with anything that was needed.
Thank you to Dr. Arnold from McMaster Hospital, Dr. Butler and Dr. Kremma from Princess Margaret Hospital, Dr. Sharma from the Hamilton General Hospital and Dr. Brenda Loewith, his family physician.
As per David’s wishes cremation has taken place and a private family interment will
take place at Resurrection Cemetery in Ancaster.
In lieu of flowers, donations in David’s memory can be made to Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation or to a charity of your choice if you wish.
David was a true gentleman and a gentle man.
We will miss him.
