It is with
deep sadness and shock that we announce the sudden passing of Terry
Bower, 77, at his home in Antigonish on May
11th, 2024.
Terry was
born in Shelburne County in 1946. He was one of five children who grew
up carefree, riding Clydesdales, and farming. He became a barber at a
young age then worked in the mines in Northern Manitoba. Once his
children were born, he settled into the automotive tire industry in
Antigonish for over 40 years. However, he never lost his love of the
land.
Terry was an
avid gardener, woodsman, hunter, and fisher, but, his first love was
his grandchildren. He absolutely loved being a grandpa, teaching them
everything he knew about the wilderness. His second passion was
fishing and he would have preferred to be doing that over almost
everything else. Only a select few were privy to his secret fishing
spots. Our dad was a straight shooter who still believed in the honour
of a handshake. He was private, stoic, and a deeply loving person. He
was a man of little means, but he was generous to a
fault.
Terry is
survived by his 3 children: Cheryl (Adam), Angela, Chris (Shannon), 6
grandchildren Maxine, Dominique, Tristan, Sydney, Justin, and Jack,
his mother Nina Bower (102 years), sisters Pam and Donna (Mahaney),
and brother Pat.
He is
predeceased by his wife of 47 years, Florence (MacKinnon), father
Robert Bower, and brother Lloyd. Terry was a great dad and amazing
grandpa who left an indelible mark on us
all.
Cremation
and private service has taken place, and a celebration of life will
take place in July. In lieu of flowers, please donate to www.hopeforwildlife.net,
