Remembering Terrence (Terry) Brian Gilmour
Terry was born to Bonnie (Barnes) and Leonard Gilmour December 20th, 1951. He always felt a little cheated having his birthday so close to Christmas. He quietly left us in the afternoon, Wednesday October 30, 2024. He was big brother to Laurel (Richard) Reich, Gayla Gilmour and Keith (Charlene) Gilmour. His family included long time partner Donna Joseph, her parents Carl and Olly Joseph, sister Sharon Waterhouse and her family. He was Uncle to Sean (Bethany) Smith, Steve (Lisa) Smith, Trevor Klemenz and Kristin Anderson, Robyn (Brent) Tarasoff, and Jodie (Mike) Huber; and Super Uncle to Alexis, Dylan, Shalayne, Mashayla, Tyler, Wylie and Kyle. His extended family included many friends and neighbors at Christopher Lake and his coffee buddies in Saskatoon.
Terry loved animals (perhaps more than people). His dogs were a big part of his life and he had four special ones: Shorty, Shanna, Nick and Buzz. He was friends with any dog that he crossed paths with, and every dog at Christopher Lake knew Terry was good for an ear scratch and a treat.
Terry was a career CNR guy, retiring in June, 2007. He worked his way up to conductor, which meant he got to ride in the caboose!
He was a car lover from a very early age and there are many people who will remember getting to drive around on this old car frame that was a steering wheel and a box to sit on; four tires, with a small engine mounted on the back that we got to use when Dad didn’t need it for the grain auger. Someone sat on the back and pushed against the engine to tighten the belt on the drive shaft – and then away we would go! There were ‘incidents’ but never anything serious. But so many great memories. From there he went on to faster more complete models and on to his fabulous ’66 Thunderbird.
Terry and Donna enjoyed lots of activities with the Joseph family, including many costume parties at the family’s Jackfish Lake cabin. And playing the famous ‘cup’ games with prizes hidden. Terry could hardly contain his excitement, jumping in when it wasn’t his turn! This of course, let him get the best prizes! Such great times for everyone.
Terry split his time between his cabin at Christopher Lake and Donna’s home in Saskatoon and the family farm west of the city. Wherever he was, he had his people; some that he has been with since the late 60’s, whether for coffee, lunch, car shows, or road trips to the US. He was a dependable and predictable creature of habit.
He was a long-time committed blood donor and was always generous, whether of his time, his talents, his advice or his muscles. He was dedicated to animal welfare and supported many of those organizations. Mechanically he was great, but with technology – not so much. It was a very big deal when he successfully attached a photo to one of his texts!
He was a good person, good partner, good brother, good neighbor and good friend. He could and did talk to anyone! He never complained and he just carried on even when things got pretty bad.
He is gone too soon. He loved and was loved. He will be missed.
Terry wanted to be cremated along with the cremains of his beloved pups. His wishes were no funeral, thank you. Instead, a farewell party will be held at a later date.
The family thanks Dr Jutras, RUH CCU staff and everyone who helped make Terry’s life the very best it could be.
