Edward (Ted) Alfred Thomas Bowman, 84, passed away on October 10, 2024,
in Woodstock, Ontario. Born in 1940, Ted led a distinguished life
marked by his service in the Canadian Military and his deep commitment to
his family and community.
Ted embarked on his military career in 1960, dedicating 27 years to the
Canadian Armed Forces. His roles ranged from Navigator to Administration
Officer and Base Physical Recreation Officer (BPRO), with his first post in Winnipeg and
his final post in London, Ontario. Throughout his military journey, Ted was
known for his leadership and his ability to inspire those around him
After retiring from the military in 1987, Ted continued to impact his
community through various endeavours. He was a beloved swim coach for
the St. Thomas Jumbo Jets and contributed to several community
newspapers as an editor and photographer. Ted’s passion for engagement
was evident as he often spent afternoons at McKims, assisting and
socializing.
Ted’s academic journey included education at Princess Elizabeth School,
VMS, IDCI, and the University of Western Ontario, which equipped him with
the skills that he utilized both in and out of his military career.
A man of many interests, Ted was an avid swimmer, diver, and water polo
player. His love for photography, walking. travel, and reading enriched his life
and those of his family and friends. Ted’s stories of his travels and
experiences were cherished by all who knew him, reflecting his charming,
loving, intelligent, and humorous nature.
Ted is survived by his spouse of 64 years, Joan Bowman; children, Sandy
(Doug) Weller, Lynda (Tony) Pacheco, Ted Bowman, and Scott Bowman;
grandchildren, Bryan (Anny) Pacheco, TJ Pacheco, Denise (James) Weller, Nathan
(Chelsea) Pacheco, and Jordan Pacheco; great-grandchildren, Jason, Olivia,
Owen, and Mateo; and brother, Barry Bowman. He was preceded in death by
his parents, Ted and Queenie Bowman, and his sister, Lorraine Redhead
In line with his wishes, there will be no funeral or memorial service. Ted
spent his final years at Woodingford Lodge Woodstock (Lakewood), where he
received loving care after being diagnosed with Dementia in 2017. In
remembrance of Ted’s life and battle with dementia, donations are
welcomed at the Alzheimer Society, honoring his legacy and supporting
those facing similar challenges.
