It is with great sadness that we announce the loss of Chizuko Tanaka, who passed away peacefully, while surrounded by family, on May 18, 2024, at the age of 83.
Left to treasure her memory are her children, Alan (Alison) and Elaine (Shawn); sister, Kimiyo; and brothers, Yuichi and Katsumi; along with all those whose lives were touched by Chizuko. She now goes to join those who went before her, including her husband Kiyoshi “Frank” Tanaka and her brothers who had lived in Japan: Shusaburo, Toshihiro, and Richiro.
Chizuko, a long-time member of the Kamloops Buddhist Church, was a beloved figure in her community. For 20 years, she co-owned and operated Fujiya Foods Grocery Store in Kamloops, where her dedication and hard work left a lasting impact. Chizuko had a deep love for nature, animals, and gardening, often finding joy in the simple pleasures of life. She was known for her selflessness and genuine care for others, always ready with a warm smile and a helping hand. Her sense of humour and wit brought light to those around her, and she was an amazing cook, whose skills were celebrated by all who had the pleasure of experiencing her food that was made with true love.
The family would like to thank Three Links Manor for the wonderful care that they provided.
There will be a service to commemorate Chizuko’s remarkable life held at the Kelowna Buddhist Temple on TUESDAY, JULY 16, 2024, at 1:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers or koden, memorial donations may be made to the Parkinson Foundation, Canada.
