Obituary of Tamara Shawna-Gaye Gordon
October 5, 1979 – St. Thomas, Jamaica
May 8, 2023 – Calgary, Alberta
Tamara Shawna-Gaye Gordon, beloved daughter of Claudette Murray and Everol Gordon, and mother of Sienna Dawn Taylor, passed away on Monday, May 8, 2023, at the age of 43 years old.
It is with very heavy hearts that we bid farewell to Tamara, a woman of incredible spirit and boundless determination. Tamara was born in St. Thomas, Jamaica and moved with her family to Calgary, Alberta at a young age. Her positive energy and unbridled passion for life left an everlasting mark on those who were blessed to know her.
Despite facing many challenges, Tamara never lost sight of her dreams and against all odds, she became a mother to the greatest blessing in her life, her beautiful daughter, Sienna Dawn Taylor. Tamara’s love for her daughter was nothing short of extraordinary. Her unyielding devotion to Sienna was a testament to her strength, character, and faith and her daughter will always hold a special place in her heart, forever.
Through Tamara’s unwavering determination, she showed us all that anything is possible with hard work, perseverance, and a fierce commitment to our dreams. She earned a Bachelor of Arts, a Bachelor of Education, and a Master of Counselling, all from the University of Calgary. Tamara’s passion for education extended far beyond the classroom, and she was a lifelong learner who embraced every opportunity to expand her knowledge and understanding of the world, and herself.
Tamara is survived by her loving parents, Claudette Murray and Everol Gordon, and her cherished daughter Sienna Taylor, who was the light of her life. She is also survived by her sisters, Nicholene, Latoya, McKennalee, Kiersten, Ashley, and Kiara; her brothers, John, Shane, Chris, and Ervin; her aunties, Patsy, Merlene, Carol, Pam, Barbara, Sonia; her uncles, Desmond, Dave, Michael, Winston, and her loving grandfather, Robert Gordon, as well as numerous relatives, nieces, nephews, friends, and Sienna’s father, Brad Taylor.
Tamara’s memory will be forever treasured by those whose lives she touched, and her legacy will inspire us all to live with the same courage, determination, and passion for life that she embodied.
Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at McInnis & Holloway (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB) on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at 6:30 p.m.
Funeral Services will be held at St. Pius X Parish (2424 24 Ave NW, Calgary, AB) on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow in the Parish Hall. Graveside Service to follow Reception at Mountain View Cemetery (1605 100 Street SE, Calgary, AB). Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed here.
