Sylvia Barnhill (Fisher)
Barnhill, Sylvia Ann (Fisher) – Age 91, Lower Onslow, died peacefully on November 30, 2024, in her daughter’s home. Born on April 4, 1933, in Green Oaks, she was a daughter of the late Fraser and Adelaide (Geldart) Fisher. Following the death of her parents, Sylvia lived with a very special aunt and uncle, Currie and Margaret (Edwards) Geldart, in Debert.
Sylvia graduated from Children’s Hospital School of Nursing, Halifax, in 1954. She remained friends with fellow classmates for her entire life.
In 1955, she married Ritchie and together they were and owners and operators of their forestry business, R. Barnhill Contracting Ltd.
She is survived by her children, Kimberly (Robert MacInnes), Edward (Linda); daughter-in-law, Jacqueline Barnhill; nine grandchildren, Jonathon (Teena) MacInnes, Courtney (Ernest) Arsenault, Chayse (Zoe Francis) MacInnes, Dallas (Kristie) Barnhill, Melissa (Kyle) Hillier, Rachel (Matt Munroe) Ritacco, Michael Ritacco, Tiffany Matthews, Chevy (Taylor Lynds) Barnhill; eight great grandchildren, William, Emmette and Everett MacInnes, Olivia, MacKenzie and Matthew Hillier, Jackson and Isabell Barnhill; sisters, Carol Jakal, Jeannie Smith Large; sisters-in-law, Marina Fisher, Vera Fisher, Sonia Fisher and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Sylvia was predeceased by her husband, Ritchie; daughter, Jennifer; son, Fraser; sisters, Elizabeth (George Henderson), Shirley (John Dixon); brothers, Albert (Grace), Donald (Nellie), Paul (Arlene), Arthur, Gerald, John (Gail); brothers-in-law, Ernie Jakal and Terry Smith.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trinity United Church, Belmont Cemetery or Doctors Without Borders.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro, where a visitation will be held on Saturday, December 7th from 1pm until time of funeral service at 2pm with Rev.
