Obituary of Susie Dillon (O’Connell) Dixon, New Waterford
With heavy hearts we, the family, announce the passing of Susie Dillon (O’Connell) Dixon, 96, of New Waterford, May 20, 2024 at Waterford Heights Nursing Home.
Born in New Waterford, she was the daughter of the late Alexander O’Connell and Susannah (Verner) O’Connell.
Susie was a graduate of Glace Bay General School of Nursing and Dalhousie Public Health Nursing. She was the Public Health Nurse for New Waterford for over thirty years. Susie was a member of the C.W.L., Mount Carmel Choir, Aging Gracefully, an avid walker, bridge player, and enjoyed playing the piano. She was a wonderful mother and a caring lady with a dry sense of humour.
She is survived by her daughters, Ruth Dixon-LeDrew (Paul LeDrew), Aurora Ontario, Susan Leach (Gary Leach), Wilmington, North Carolina; grandchildren, Erin Yvonne LeDrew and Darren James Usher (Audrey Gaudreau) and a great-grandchild, Laurier Usher.
Susie is predeceased by her husband, William Dixon; sister, Yvonne Santucci and brother, Michael O’Connell.
Special thanks to Carla Reid and the nursing staff at Waterford Heights for their expert care and the support of family and friends during this time.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A funeral service will held in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford, on Saturday, Aug. 31 at 11 a.m. with Father Godwin Obike officiating.
