Stella Elizabeth (Berezowski) Budd
November 26, 1934 – March 19, 2023
It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of Stella Elizabeth (née Berezowski) Budd peacefully at True Davidson Acres, Toronto. The daughter of Frank and Lena (née Pasternak) Berezowski, Stella was third eldest of nine siblings.
She is survived by her son Kevin and daughter Trina (John Howley); her sisters Jean (the late Andy) Sembay and Susie Kidson (Chris); her brothers Ed (Bernace), Albert (Rozelle), David and Henry (the late Ilona); and her sisters-in-law Linda and Marie. She was predeceased by her brothers Ozzie and Leon. Stella is also survived by three generations of her nieces and nephews.
Stella retired from Sears Canada after many years of service. Having been raised by a Pentecostal minister, Stella enjoyed attending several places of worship, including People’s Church and in later years, the Stone Church. Stella was passionate about saving abandoned cats, several of which shared her home at any given time. Her soft spot extended to all animals who needed love and caring. She was a caring family member too, and would extend help whenever possible.
Even at an advanced age, Stella could be seen driving her Suzuki Sidekick at sometimes alarming speeds. She voluntarily surrendered her driving privileges eventually and sold her little SUV, a sentimental vehicle left to her in the estate of her close friend and neighbour, Lodi Tanel. But that didn’t slow her down much; Stella could be seen almost daily walking considerable distances with her cart to shop. She was an avid caretaker of her property, and no errant blade of grass was to be tolerated. Having many boys in the family, her favourite phrase was “How about I give you a knuckle sandwich?!” Always in jest (we think). It was not until Stella became a long-term care resident that the family learned of her fondness for singing- and yodelling! Stella was celebrated by the staff at True Davidson Acres for her lively spirit as well as her vocal skills.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you for the exceptional care provided by the staff at True Davidson Acres and her part-time caregiver, Henreita Dacao, PSW.
Cremation has occurred; interment and a celebration of life will be held at a date and time to be determined.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Stella’s name to Alzheimer Society of Ontario alzheimer.ca/on/en/take-action/donate or to an animal charity of one’s choice
