It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Mom and Dad (Oma and Opa, Great-Oma and Great-Opa) Norbert Peter Umstadt and Martha Umstadt (nee Steil).
Umstadt, Norbert Peter, born June 6, 1932 in Dittelsheim-Hessloch, Germany passed away peacefully in Chateauguay, Quebec at the age of 91 on November 29, 2023. He had a passion for gardening and loved being outdoors. Music, being his other passion, served him well where he was a member of numerous German mixed and male only choirs in and around the City of Montreal. He was also an active member of the 55+ Club and of the Blaue Funken German Club in Chateauguay where he and Martha lived since 1967.
Umstadt, Martha (nee Steil) born October 12, 1932 in Dittelsheim-Hessloch Germany also left us peacefully in Saint-Remi, Quebec at the age of 91 on December 5, 2023. Martha’s greatest joys in life were spending time with her cherished family as well as cooking and baking many traditional German foods. She could always be found on Sunday’s preparing a delicious lunch or afternoon coffee. She also loved visiting the Chateauguay Regional Shopping Centre to browse the stores and enjoy coffee with her friends. She was also a member of the Blaue Funken German Club in Chateauguay.
Norbert and Martha were devoted and loving parents to Heidi, Peter and Patty (Terry Sadowski). They were deeply loved and will be fondly remembered by their grandchildren Graig (Amy MacLean Umstadt), Christine (Jesse Clarke), Jean-Phillippe (predeceased), Frederick (Angelica Sabatini) and Sabrina Sadowski (Austin Hanischuk) and great-grandchildren Grace and Avery Umstadt, Preston, Naomi and Owen Clarke.
The family would like to thank the staff at Anna Laberge Hospital as well as the CHSLD Pierre-Rémi-Narbonne in Saint- Remi for their wonderful and compassionate care. We will miss them more than we can say and will cherish our memories forever but are happy that they are together again. Rest in Peace, Mom and Dad, Oma and Opa, Great-Oma and Great-Opa.
