Obituary
It is with a heavy heart and profound sadness that we share the news of the passing of Stan Coffin, a cherished member of our community and a beacon of volunteerism in Grand Falls-Windsor. Stan left us peacefully on the morning of March 8, 2024, surrounded by his children and sister Bernice. He leaves behind a legacy of compassion, dedication, and inspiration.
Stan was pre-deceased by his beloved wife Edna Coffin, his parents George and Betsy Coffin, and sister Christine Keats. In his final days, Stan said his proudest achievement were his children, Jennifer (husband Dwayne) and Cory (wife Gina), and his grandchildren Kylie, Kayden, Lenah and Nev. For the past 2 decades, he was also a loving companion, father figure and grandfather to the Mulrooney’s (Joanie, Wayne and Tammy, Chris, and Chantelle). His love for his family was evident in every aspect of his life.
In his most recent role, Stan occupied the distinguished position of President of The Cataracts, where he demonstrated exemplary leadership and foresight, guiding the team to secure the prestigious Allan Cup Championship (2017). Throughout his life, Stan served in various leadership capacities, including manager and president of AAA hockey teams, collaborating with Central Impact, and assuming the role of president for minor baseball as far back as the 80s. His efforts were instrumental in cultivating a community of volunteers, many of whom became cherished friends. Furthermore, his dedication was pivotal in assisting numerous young individuals in achieving their aspirations in sports.
This past summer, he was recognized and honoured by the Town of Grand Falls-Windsor, where they retired a jersey for him at the Joe Byrne Memorial Stadium, in recognition of his dedication to building sport in the town.
Stan’s impact on our community cannot be overstated, with thousands of volunteer hours dedicated to enriching the lives of athletes and sports fans in Grand Falls-Windsor. His efforts were a testament to his belief in the power of community and his desire to contribute to its prosperity and well-being.
As we mourn the loss of such an extraordinary individual, we also celebrate the incredible life he led and the indelible mark he left on our hearts and our community. Stan’s legacy will continue to inspire and guide us, reminding us of the importance of service, compassion, and love.
In this time of sorrow, let us come together to honor Stan’s memory and carry forward the torch of kindness he carried so gracefully. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time. Stan Coffin will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
In keeping with his wishes cremation has taken place.
