Stanley Strato Obituary
Stanley Michael Strato
January 23, 1944 – May 31, 2024
It is with great sadness but also thankfulness for a life well lived that we announce that Stan Strato has passed away with his loving family by his side – suddenly but peacefully at Health Sciences North on May 31, 2024. It was only a few months ago that we gathered in January to celebrate Stan’s 80th birthday. It was a great party – over 100 people – and Stan loved it. All those people for him to visit and talk with.
Stan was born in 1944 to Henry (Hank) Strato and Vera (Salminen) at Beaver Lake. His father died suddenly when he was only two. With his older sister, Doreen he grew up on a working farm milking cows by hand before going to school. This helped make him a capable, self-reliant man.
After graduating from Sheridan Tech Stan went to college in New Liskeard. He worked in sales for many years at Dixon Electric in Sudbury before purchasing the company, which flourished under his ownership. He was well respected by both his staff and customers.
In August 1971 Stan was so lucky to marry Judy Myllynen. This was the beginning of 52 wonderful years of love, adventure, and partnership. Son Michael (Jilly) and daughter Karen (Chris) brought grandchildren Saje and Cruz Strato, and Abby and Owen Roche, whom he adored immensely.
Stan is lovingly remembered by his buddy and brothers-in law, Lloyd, Dennis (predeceased) (Diane), sister Doreen (predeceased), nieces, Kelly, Sue, nephew, Terry. Cousin Linda held a special place in his heart, exchanging Finnish translations frequently. He loved and supported his godchildren, Kelly, Devon, Brandan, Colin, Cara, Brittany.
Stan had a passion for travel which he shared with many, and brought him to many countries around the world. He loved meeting people and always said “Everyone has a story”. Friends became family as he listened to their stories and made connections with everyone he met.
Stan was a proud Finn and never strayed far from Beaver Lake. He loved the family farm and enjoyed driving along the side roads. He knew the history of the place and who had lived where. It was always fun driving with Stan. You never knew what road you would end up on.
Stan was an overwhelmingly positive person. When asked “How are you?” he could be counted on to reply “Stan-tastic”. His legacy of hard – but cheerful – work, quiet philanthropy, pride in his heritage and involvement in his community will continue in the example he and Judy have given to their children and grandchildren. Stan has left a huge hole in our hearts. He is and will be forever loved and missed.
The family thanks the very caring staff in Emerg, ICU, and the patient staff in Nephrology who suffered through Stan’s jokes and stories. Words cannot adequately express the kindnesses of Doctors Gibb, Pineau, Harmon, Jefkins, and McKechnie.
As per his explicit wishes, a Celebration of his extraordinary Life will be held on Monday, July 15th from 1-6, with words of remembrance at 2 pm. It will be held at Natura Catering and Events (1351 Kelly Lake Road Unit 2) next to Verdicchio’s. If desired, donations can be made to the Beaver Lake Sports and Cultural Club. Cheque only.
